well, it's obvious who's at fault here. the city and the private garage owner should both have to pay a bajillion dollars, be put to death and have their garages torn down and the whole city paved over with padded neoprene so the poor little darlings can't hurt themselves.

Hey people, take some PERSONAL responsibilty. This shit kills me. These are the same parents that blame the SCHOOLS because there kids are too lazy to do the work they are assigned. People need to get a grip. I liked society a lot more when people took responsibilty for there own actions, and didn't try to pin their stupidity on someone else.

This is incredibly ironic to me, because I've read these exact same words (on non-skydiving forums) about skydivers who have killed themselves. What always shocks me the most is the hostility expressed towards the deceased/injured. The same hostility you're expressing toward these "stupid fucks", as if they DESERVE to die for taking a risk, which is a pretty sadistic sentiment if you ask me.

I refuse to call someone else stupid for taking a risk and knowing the consequences (and I assume anyone jumping off of a garage understands the consequences), even if the risk is one I would jot choose to take personally.

The only people in this article who are stupid are those blaming the garage owners for the jumpers' injuries/deaths.

I agree with the part about taking responsibility for your own actions, but again, why do you have to say someone deserves to be dead, just because they are taking a risk you think is stupid? Many people think the risks we take every weekend are stupid, and when one of us goes in, they see it on the news, laugh, and say "served the fucking dumbass right". Then a huge discussion pops up on here about why someone would say something like that.

I also didn't say he deserved to be dead. I said he should be dead. Big difference. He should be dead because he fell 6 stories. And yes, I think he's stupid, for clearly not understanding the risk he was taking. If he understood it, this lawsuit would not be taking place.

I couldn't agree more, I don't think those guys are assholes, they are seeking adreline thrills. I've mountain biked, skied, snowboarded, and skydived for years seeking these thrills. This isn't any different. People just have to realise that YOU are ultimately responsible for your own actions.

Whats next? A fence around the ocean in case someone drowns?

Next someone will make BASE jumping illegal.

If you don’t see the difference between deciding to jump over a garage with no prior training and no regards for safety, and what we do then I really don’t have much to say.


I think most of us went threw training, and we even have a 2nd parachute just in case something happens.
We also sign wavers.

So I have to disagree with you. The people who call the skydivers “stupid fucks” usually know nothing of the sport or how much attention is paid to safety.
These kids however are stupid fucks. They never thought about the what ifs.

Kids do dumb crap like that all the time. Back in the hunter gatherer days, kids probably teased dangerous wild animals like cave bears and lions. Back then there wasn't anyone to sue after the kid got gored!

I agree, that's nuts! But I also think its funny for a newspaper to act like kids acting stupid is some kind of "new trend". Suing everyone and refusing to take responsibility for your own stupidity is the "not so new trend"! But that goes on all the time now. There was an incident in Chicago involving kids trespassing in a warehouse, messing with machinary and one of them getting killed. The parents sued, of course! My guess is the case is still pending or was settled quietly.

Same here. I used to jump off the roof of my house on to a trampoline (ended up in a nearby tree a few times) and jump off the roof into the pool. If I ever got hurt doing something stupid, my dad just laughed and told me to stop being a dumbass.
