Rules to being Pied?

Recommended Posts

See, I've never bought into that rule. I don't think being pied is like getting your SCR ceremony. At my first drop zone (Westex Skysports, near Midland, TX) pieing was a family event. Everybody on the drop zone, from the young kids to the whuffo spouses got into the act. That was fun. If you have to have been pied for the same number of jumps, who pies people with 10,000-20,000 jumps? I think SCR beer pouring should be limited to those who have been poured on, but I think pieing should be for everyone.

On a similar note, an appropriate pie consists of an aluminum pie pan and whipped cream, nothing else! Do not put cat food and mustard and seafood salad in somebody's pie--That's just not right.

Here here!! :) -Also, don't let AMAZON sneak up on ya and get ya!!!! Amazon hugs to regular hugs are akin to Amazon pieings vs. regular pieings...:D

SCR? No idea. Never done it, never seen it. [:/]

Hi Am.,
There are no rules except "Jungle Rules" any one can get pied anywhere anytime for anything or nothing at all!!! Also, paybacks (revenge) is a bitch and can be 10fold and or greater. If you really want to get nasty to someone who pied you, take out a civil suit against them in court for assult and defamation!!! Ask for a big $$ settlement, a restraining order and see their jaw drop to the ground!!! Also as for pay backs, cream pies in cast iron skillits makegreat dum-dum ammo!!! They'll never know what hit them.

They nailed me bad for my 100th at teh MardiGras Boogie down at Moss Point. They have a whole plan, and you know it's coming.

Of course, someone decided mustard and ketchup would make a good base for a five-layer-pie, but other than loosing a t-shirt I liked, it was all good.

As to who can pie, I say go buck wild. Everybody who wants to should be included in the nastiness. Just beware the "thank you" hugs. ;)

Amanda, I agree!

1000 ( Gold Wings) and multiples thereof. And, to participate in the pieing, one SHOULD have reached the same milestone.

Now for the soapbox portion of the program. I started jumping in a club environment where many of our traditions were upheld. IMHO, the commercialization of skydiving has diluted the traditions to some degree. Some local variations do exist. However, most would agree that you are not going to see someone pouring at an SCR ceremony if they have not been poured on. I'm sure they would be beaten. B|

Likewise, again IMHO, a closing pin should only be worn after one achieves their "A" license.

Rules for pieing?
Where did you guys learn to jump, "Skydive Shangri-Freakin'-La?!!"

Rule 1) If youve done something pie-able, get your gear off ASAP

Rule 2) When it comes to pieing you, your friends are assh*les. (Rule 2B: remember this when youre the pie-er)

Rule 3) Bring an extra pair of contacts and some shampoo.

Ya know, I never heard the "no pouring if you weren't poured on" rule until I got back into skydiving. I thought it was kind of chickenshit to be one of the more aggressive pourers if you hadn't been poured on, but other than that it was in pretty good fun. This hearkens back to the late 70's/early 80's at the old Spaceland.

Never heard the pie one, either. Good thing, too :). But that was a LONG time ago, when I discovered that a frozen pie takes a long time to defrost :)

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

i posted this in another thread before i noticed this one.

BRITS17 IS CLAIMING 1000 JUMPS AND HAS NOT BEEN PIED YET :o:D

she's had 1000 jumps on her profile for months but has never said anything. since she has tried to elude the tradition, she is due a pieing of the worst degree.

Dublin is a neutral zone for skydiving, so when you do your 100th, who knows what DZ's rules will befall you

Personally I think if you are going to honor an achievement it should be a REAL pie. Not just a paper plate with whipped cream. The higher the honor the better the pie.

I remember one ceremony where there was no whipped cream available so shaving cream on a paper plate was used. BUMMER! It was menthol Bar-ba-Sol and it burned the poor guys eyes so bad he could not jump the next day.....Not cool!

I have also seen where they were to cheap to even buy paper plates and just held the jumper down and spewed whipped cream on his head.

Geez, if you are going to do it show some class and do it right. Getting that crap on someones gear is unforgivable.

I would rather just make them buy beer.
