Starving Skydiver..

Recommended Posts

Let's talk about the REAL WORLD here...

I live between four walls..with a 10" screen TV and my comcast cable box is bigger than my TV which I never watch..I just listen to Music channels..and I have an AeroBed (extrabedinaminute)...I am SO not looking for any sympathy..if I were...Iwould've posted this months ago..but I am happier with the minimalistic lifestyle than when I had $200K job (which I have been offered to rejoin) and a mansion fully furnished...really...skydiving sets it all straight, dontcha think?

I have found out the less I have the happier I am. Keep it simple.

But I did just get a new cell phone, and I have to figure out how it works. That's one reason I don't get a new phone, I hate having to figure out anything new.
May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey

I'm definitely not starving. I work hard, and I enjoy some of the creature comforts in life. I havent always had as much as I have now, and I could easily cut back on some of my expenses.

But I dont think that skydiving has anything to do with it. In fact, one of my brothers is having a serious medical problem, and if it comes down to it, I'd sell some, if not all, of my gear to help him.

But I see what youre saying, and I've seen how skydiving seems to be just what a lot of people need to put life in to perspective. However, skydiving is not my REAL WORLD, its my escape from it.

It's not the lifestyle, Katee, it's the Freedom you now have. :)

Thank you so much for seeing the VALUE in that Rev:)

I remember what you went through to get that freedom, dear.

Congrats on attaining it to the point that you are truely happy. :)
It's your life, live it!

I don't have a lot and I relocate every couple of years. It's the nature of my job. I save a lot of money that way. My job takes care of my rent too because of that and that's one reason why I stay with my company. I figure if I have kids someday I will invest in some things for their security/ stability but right now I have very little possessions other than gifts people give me. It's neat because most of my possessions have a little sentimental value because of that. No one seems to comment or even notice!! It's all a matter of choice.

Kaylne,
I run a business and yet have never made 6 figures in the 25 yrs that I've been there. I own my 2 bedroom condo in a nice part of Houston with my 25" Sony, cable highspeed internet and dvr cable tv. I still live somewhat a minimalistic lifestyle. Work, skydive. I'm happy with money in the bank and in my jump account. I'm as close to a starving skydiver as I would ever want to be! See ya in Dublin!;)

I actually have quite a bit of "stuff". Most of it is old crap gathered over the years. I have moved so many times that its all boxed up and stuffed away in a garage. My home is pretty sparse, and I'm damn comfortable with it this way. Hell Im not here very often anyways. I'd be more than happy to tie one of those old beat up couches to the top of my car and road-trip it to you:P

How about a "Buy RMH a couch" fund ??? Im in:)

I had a bunch of crap I had to lose too. I'm a packrat. the last set of flooding and mudsliding here in san diego took care of all that for me. I'm now down to two couches, my computer, tv and stereo, important paperwork, two of my original three rigs and a float-tested pissed off cat. It took only one pickup truck load and move everything. It feels good only having that and a lot of stress is gone. I think I will stay like this for a while.

Before I started skydiving: Made alot less, had a 97 Camry (paid for) and a nice apartment.

When I first started skydiving: Making a little more, bought a new truck (2002 Avalanche), a used trailer and got a crappy basement apartment.

Now: Making more, sold the truck, sold the trailer, bought an RV van, have a small cheap car, and the same crappy apartment.

Future: Probably gonna sell the van to get a new rig. :)
You never realize how much money you actually had till you start skydiving. :)

yes, I totally agree with you. Seeing how the more possessions I have means less $$ for skydiving and eating out with friends, makes me want to live a more minimalistic lifestyle, though having some cool toys would be fun too.B|

I am definitely not a material person by any means...especially since I came to college and have to pack away all my "stuff" at the end of each semester and move it.:D

The best benefit to being a minimalist is the only "cleaning" I have is dishes and laundry:)

Open the back and front door, and take a leaf blower (which is also My 6hp shopvac) and blow from one door out the other:D

sure beats dusting:P
