I understand not putting your name in, internet stalkers and all.

However, this is a skydiving forum. Accurate jump numbers, years in sport, and gear are useful for knowing who people are talking to.

If you have 50 jumps and people talk to you like you are a newbie, get over it. Putting 50,000 jumps in your profile will not give you any real respect.

People who are actually in the sport, generally like to meet other people in the sport and skydive. Filling out the profile is a good way to find jump buddies with similar interests and nearby locations.

Trolls must be the saddest people in the world. Outside, they mask themselves as other people. Inside, they know that they aren't like those people. No one can hide from their insides.

I don't generally bust trolls. If you tell them how you know, you just educate them. I try not to educate people to become better liars.

Trolls are usually best left alone and ignored. They get their kicks by getting a rise out of us. If they don't get anything out of us, they go away. [Wink]

I only post in Bonfire, jump numbers do not apply. I do not give out advice on skydiving, and if I ask for advice, I post my experience level to the person asked.

Other than that, WTH do you need to know that I have 136 jumps to read my post on movie quotes?? :S

I did have someone, in the Bonfire, go into my profile and make fun of my canopy size and reserve. Completely off topic, we were not discussing these items, but this person was mad and decided to try to find something to 'dig' at me. Since then, I've taken all of the shit out of my profile.

For future reference, just for you, Happy:

I have about 136 jumps, a B license, a little shy of 2 years in the sport, I jump a new Triatholn 190, Smart reserve 175, Icon container, and I would ONLY tell a coach or instructor that I am hiring to help me what my wingload is. ;) I am working on my coach's rating, but I'd be surprised if I actually take that step forward before this fall. :)

I agree! People who know me know I have just barely finished A and only post in bonfire because I don't feel I have a right to talk in the other forums. I do however, mostly read in other forums. Especially threads relating to gear and safety and so on. That's my business! I don't mean it to be a poser or anything. :)and on here. :$

I think it's a little different when you're 'known' - when lots of people here have met you and can vouch for you, I think profile info is less important. As well as "famous" skydivers - GG doesn't need to tell me his jump numbers.

If you're new to the sport and/or this site, your profile is your cred when no one else has met you.

you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?

That's true. I'm not new to dz.com, so I haven't had anyone challenge me on this. :P And I have met some dot.commers...not nearly enough, though!

You have a right to post in any of the forums. Just be carefull what you post.

As myself I used to be an open book with my profile. Since what happened to PhillyKev I wiped everything personal. My jump numbers and other info are correct. People "know" me I've been here forever. So my cred is actually being here. I do not give advice or normally post in any other forums.

I think were Bill is going with this post is if no one here has ever met you, and you just jump in and start posting on hot threads, with negative vibes, and you have some kind of outrageous jump number, and there is no one here to vouch for you, people will think you are a troll.

I have taken most of my information out of my profile, I think enough people here know me, so that information is no longer needed. As a single woman that does a lot of traveling, I think it's best not to have that information there. I've also cut back on the post that let the world know where I'm going to be at, I don't need the world to know when I'm going to be out of town.

Maybe we should take that to the "Suggestions and Feedback" forum... new profile fields! But I'd like to suggest a few of my own for the gentlemen... B|

I took my jump numbers off because I was not keeping up with them (as I don't know where my current logbook is)... And I don't really know how many years in the sport I have; I started jumping in 1991, but for me to say I had 14 years in the sport would be highly inaccurate because I sort of go in and out of jumping (with long breaks in between).

Of course, I rarely post in anything but the community forums anyway, so it probably doesn't matter too much.... And how does anyone know that the jump numbers in someone's profile are accurate anyhow? The validity that I place on a person's post usually has nothing to do with the jump numbers in their profile - it has to do with me reading their other posts and getting a feel for whether they are a "real person" and whether they seem to know what they're talking about or not.
