Is it safe

To glue or sew velcro to the side of my container. Pretty plain and would like to add various patches

Have 60 static line jumps and thought I was cool until i discovered REAL FLIGHT

If you sew it, remove the canopies first, so you don't accidentally sew the parachute to the side of the container. One highly experienced skydiver killed himself doing that.

The thickness of the velcro and patch could also change the flexibility of flaps, and affect opening characteristics.

If you use glue, it may seep through and bind to the parachute. Maybe not a good idea.

Consult with a local rigger about your ideas. Seemingly simple and harmless changes can sometimes kill you in this sport.

Are you sure patches are going to stay in place in freefall with just velcro?

Why not put them on your jumpsuit instead? That's what most jumpers do.

Hook velcro and suspension lines don't get along well. Will your placement be likely to snag lines during a jump, the walk back to the hangar, or during packing? Even if you attach the loop side to the rig and the hook to the patch... the corners of the patch can lift up and snag lines.

A snag might not cause a mal, it might just damage the suspension / control lines.
The choices we make have consequences, for us & for others!
