MRE's

Recommended Posts

OMG, that is AWESOME...OORAH! My daughter used to beg to take MRE Spam in her lunch when we lived on CamPen (years ago). I told her if I did that I'd be reported for child abuse~!~ But I did relent. Actually, the chicken ala king wasn't too bad...

Wait til I tell her what your friend did to his girlfriend. That is so damn funny, man, so damn funny!!!! Us, is she still his girlfriend? Has she fixed him a 'special' meal yet? Heh heh heh..

This is quite possibly the funniest thing I have ever read. MRE's were like gold in Survival and Evasion training. It's kind of hard to evade when you are shatting everywhere!
A-ron

You had rations on E and E??

Lucky bugger. We had to eat what we caught. ie not much.>:(

Try eating the crackers with no water in less than a minute....

You had a minute!! Damn!! They gave us 30 seconds!! I got really good at stabbing the MRE with my knife, tearing it open, stuffing my mouth with a cracker and sometimes a bit of the meal itself...

Sometimes I managed to get a drink, sometimes I didn't.. I was pretty efficient after 2nd phase of bootcamp.. Man what a ride!!

what your friend did to his girlfriend.

This was one of those triple forwarded emails... so I did not know the guy. Don't usually read those, but because of the subject line - had to and just thought I'd share my morning funny.

Yeah, but he is an academy boy. The get free jumps, free neptunes, free rations....it is breathtaking really.

Free rations?? Ha! We weren't allowed to catch shit, and one whole MRE for a day of hiking over 20 clicks in the mountains at 9K feet with a 40 lb pack...there was a reason we all cut open the wrappers and licked the inside when we were done eating them. Some guys paid 20 bucks for just the entree from those things.

Edit: Not to mention the only thing eaten during evasion was ants and a small cup of rice at the checkpoint. Not as bad as marines but when compared w/ civilians yes.

1??? Sucks to be you. My go got 3...I only ate one at Saylor Park. In fact, I ate the other two when I got back, plus what I gorged on at Mitches..

BWWWWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

NICE!

Although it is true that I've never been in the military, for various reasons I've eaten a LOT of MREs. Enough that I have my own ways of creating various things out of other things included in the pouch.

And I thought my farts were bad with normal food...holy shit.:ph34r:

I've got a case of em' stashed away somewhere...do they even have a shelf life?

Depends on the room temp where they're stored. They're good for an average of 5 years, but as a civilian when you get "military" MRE's they may start out a year or two old.

The best stuff is Mountain House products: http://www.mountainhouse.com/

They have some food sold in cans that will last 30 years. I keep a little at home in case a hurricane hits and I want food other than canned tuna or salmon.

The scary part is, MRE's are an improvement on the field rations us Brits get

I'm glad you said that. I attributed the taste of your Army's rations to differences in tastes between cultures. We couldn't finish the ones we were given. I'll take MRE's any day.

That story is making me crave an MRE for some reason. That's scary.:P
