bertusgeert 1 #26 February 11, 2005 QuoteI know the old joke about when you were a teenager you knew everything blah, blah, blah But when I think back to my childhood and early teen years, I do think I was a lot smarter then (compared to my peers) than I am now. Funny..... I'm a lot happier now....... Not sure if the two are related I have often thought the same thing! in any case, I see that I will have to take this discussion to a more appropriate (serious) context to get the responses I want. Thats OK, we are a bunch of skydiver around a bonfire after all! --------------------------------------------- As jy dom is moet jy bloei!
NWFlyer 2 #27 February 11, 2005 QuoteTake all the people you know, have known, have known about, then compare yourself intelectually to them. The dumbest person you know is a 0.00001 and the smartest is 100. Where do you rank yourself and why? (Based in intellegence, wisdom, insight, intellect.) Just wondering... I honestly don't know a lot of really dumb people. It hits me every so often that the people I spend the majority of time with would probably all be in the top 10-20% on pure "intelligence" scales (IQ). Now, of course, that's not saying they all have the common sense, street smarts, or emotional intelligence to make them truly "intelligent" but there's a good amount of raw brainpower there. That said, I'm smart enough to realize two things: 1) my intelligence is not something I should ever try to prove or disprove. I won't dumb myself down, but I don't need to act like a know-it-all, either. The things that are "intelligent" about me will come out in time (as will the things that are "dumb" about me). 2) All the brains in the world don't mean a thing if you don't also have common sense, emotional intelligence, the capacity for empathy, and wisdom. I may be flatlining on the "book smarts" but I'm still growing by leaps and bounds on the "life smarts.""There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
Nightingale 0 #28 February 11, 2005 well, I know what my IQ is, but I also know I've done some pretty dumb-ass things. I do learn from my mistakes...I usually don't make the same one twice, I just make a lot of new ones. So, averaging out intelligence with wisdom, probably around 60 or so. diver123 0 #30 February 11, 2005 Intelligence, to me, is being smart enough not to sit around wasting time talking about how smart I am in life, and just live it... "pull high! It's lower than you think..."
