Viso shuts down on it self

Recommended Posts

Do anyone else have the problem that the Viso shuts down?
When i get to the DZ in the morning i turn it on and get all my gear ready.
When its time to jump i always check the alti before entering the plane and sometimes its turned off.

I think this has happend four times now. Im not 100% sure i did turn it on in the morning when arriving every time, but the last time it happend (yesterday) im very sure i turned it on.
When i turn it on the second time it always stays on.
And thats why im not sure if it really happend four times, you get this question in your head "... did i turn it on..."

I cant find anything in the manual that explains why it does like this, so my question is. Is this normal, and has it happend to anyone else?

Either of 2 things are happening:-
1. A VISO switches itself off after being on for 14 hours.
ie. 14 hours from the last time it was jumped or a button was pressed. (like your Cypres)
So what normally happens is you spend all day jumping somewhere hot during those long summer days and you finish up around 7pm.
Then the next morning you are back on the first lift at 9am (exactly 14 hours later) and just as you board the plane it switches off. As it was already on when you picked it up you therefore never touched the buttons.
Or 2. Some VISO's, and I've had 2 of them are prone to immediately switching themselves off 2 seconds after you've just switched them on. Usually just as you think it's on and you look away. Hence you don't notice it again till you are on the plane. If this is the case then it's a software issue and you'll have to send it back to L&B who will gladly replace it. They are VERY VERY good!

I don't have mine right in front of me, but I think I may know what the issue is. When you hold the 2 buttons to turn it on and the screen starts flashing and it starts beeping, make sure you hold onto both buttons through this process until the normal screen comes up displaying 0 for your altitude.

If you hold the 2 buttons to turn it on and as soon as the screen starts flashing and making beeping sounds you let go of the buttons then when the normal display comes up it'll only be there for a second or two.

So just hold both buttons for the whole 5 seconds or so that it's starting up. Hopefully that's the issue. If not, L&B have the best customer service in the world and they'll replace yours for free.

Mine VISO sometimes does things from point 2), but I just turn it on again and have no problem for the rest of the day.
Should I send it back then? It does not bother me and I don`t want to send it back unless I really need to.

You really need to send it to me, I could use some Viso testing and you could use another opignion :)
What goes around, comes later.

Oh? I will try that.
Thank you for the advice.

d100965: it might feel like its 14 hours between arriving and geting up in the air, but its not ;)
so i guess i have one of those with a softwareproblem [:/]
or perhaps Dan is correct?
either way i will keep an eye on it

Perhaps Dan is correct, however you only need to press one button to turn the VISO on.
I usually press and hold the middle button till I hear a beep then release. I do not have to wait any longer.
here is what the manual says:-
To turn the power ON, press and hold any key until the VISO beeps, then release the button.

Anything else is just Voodu Magic!;)
