JohnnyD 0 #1 February 10, 2005 I have a flag from '83 that I want to put back up (indoors). It has been packed away for about 10 years and somewhere along the way something got spilled on it. The rest of it is just plain dirty. The cleaners won't touch it out of fear that they may damage it. Any thoughts?
wingnut 0 #2 February 10, 2005 what's it made out of?? cotton? poly blend???? i'd say some good detergent and the washing machine... if it is showing it's years and is pretty delicate, i'd say hand wash it in the tub or sink.......... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"
JohnnyD 0 #3 February 10, 2005 Its made of cotton. I guess the real question is will attempting to clean it harm it? Its got some value to me and I'd rather it be dirty an in my posession than ruined.
AggieDave 6 #4 February 10, 2005 Its very hard to clean a cotton flag. You might be able to spot remove the spill using a diluted bleach (on the white only, obviously) and a scrub brush. You might be able to use an oxyclean or similar on the other areas. Eitherway, incase you didn't know, if you dispose of the flag, do not throw it away. Fold it properly and give it to your local American Legion. They'll retire the flag properly in a ceremony on Flag Day.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." jazzjumper 0 #5 February 10, 2005 Johnny, If it means something to you, then you know what to do. Respect for the flag is just that. Find a way to clean it, or do the right thing. No matter how good she looks, someone, somewhere is sick of her shit!

Hell, I've thrown my rig in the wash in the past.
