pincheck 0 #2 February 3, 2005 I know it hurts but be brutal throw it out i moved house last year and got rid off stuff that stretched back 15 years. I am according to my wife a magpie so could never get rid off anything. I could not believe how much crap i had collected. Be clinical it's the only way. usskydiver 0 #3 February 3, 2005 I still have some hooks and eyes in my riggin kit. Oh yeah, some locking cones as well. I wonder what they'd go for on ebay? Tim T.
hooked 0 #4 February 3, 2005 Yes!!!!! If you haven't used it in years, toss it! I'm married to a pack rat, and this stuff adds up! J -------------------------------------- Sometimes we're just being Humans.....But we're always Human Beings.
skykittykat 0 #5 February 3, 2005 It's hard! I've moved heaps of times and have a little system. Put everything in piles like fave clothes, personal effects, etc. Have a separate pile for things that you think you may use again, but haven't seen/used in months/years. Get rid of those. Be tough!!!! Liz
skycat 0 #6 February 3, 2005 Trust me once you start tossing stuff, it becomes liberating and hard to stop. I now once a year go through all my clothes and toss the ones I haven't worn in the last year. Some things like suits of course are exempt, but regular shirts and pants.....bye bye. Every room in the house gets a once over also and things get tossed, magazines older than a month good bye unless they have something in them I really want to re-read, then I tear out those pages and put them in a binder. Another way to save space is DVDs and CDs remove them from thier case and put them in DVD and CD binders. They comes with slots big enough to hold your CD and DVD covers. If you are trying to move into an RV be very critical, think of the space you have and the amount of space that you need for your stuff and then start purging until it all fits. Do something like if I keep one bobble head then I have to toss two others.Fly it like you stole it!
mouth 0 #7 February 3, 2005 I am somewhat of a packrat, but i'm really trying to go through and simplify my life and all my stuff. My family seems to think I want all those old pictures that nobody has any idea who they are except that they are kin to me somehow. It would be nice to be able to keep everything my grandparents and mother ever owned but at this point I'm just sick of the clutter. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit. windcatcher 0 #8 February 3, 2005 YES!!! It's terrible!!! My family and ex-best friend from high school are all pack rats. I can't understand their reasoning for keeping all this junk around that they'll never use. My dad's the worst-he'll buy something on sale even if he does't need it, because he thinks someone, somewhere will be able to use it. Moving in and out of college dorms taught me how much useless junk we keep, and I dont even have that much stuff! Throw or give away anything you don't use---somebody could be very happy with something you have no use for. Why not become a more giving person? I don't like having a lot of "stuff", except for music and clothes. Other than that... Mother to the cutest little thing in the world...
ChasingBlueSky 0 #9 February 3, 2005 I have 9 boxes of "stuff" I can't seem to part with. They haven't been opened since I moved into my place over 4 years ago. I'll have to go thru it soon....looks like I may have to move in the next few months._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... wingnut 0 #14 February 3, 2005 that almost makes sense.... thing is i don't stress out about having alot of stuff... so hence no stress.... only thingi would be bumbed about (besides my skydiving stuff) if i got it lost, stolen, or burned wouldbe my pictures ihave saved on my computer.... and i have those backed up, so i'm not stressing..... ______________________________________ "i have no reader's digest version"

bobsled92 0 #16 February 3, 2005 I am a pack rat too. I keep thinking that "I'll need really soon". I found that if you haven't used/needed it in the last 12 months.....you just don't need it. set yourself free. fireflytx 0 #17 February 3, 2005 I have a hard time throwing things away. I get my friend to help me and she makes me realize half the shit I keep around is crap. Then she gives moral support when I finally decided to toss it! Feels great to unload."Well behaved women rarely make history"
FlyinNover 0 #18 February 5, 2005 Oh man, as an Ebayer seller this thread is killing me. You can't throw that stuff away! 'Bay it!. I mean, I sold a broken A:\ drive for $5.00. Last week my roommate sold an *opened* box of Breathe-Rite Nasal Strips....with two of them missing! You wouldn't believe what people will buy. Seriously, you all have tons of 'bayable stuff you're just going to trash. At least pack it up and send it to one of us who sell on Ebay. I'll split it 40/60 with you (after costs) and do all the work. (I'm serious. PM me.) Ebay's motto should be "It's Not Crap If It Sells!"

Peej 0 #20 February 7, 2005 Your post made me think of a Far Side cartoon. There's a pack rat sitting on a bunk in a prison cell, chatting to another inmate.
