Yoshi 0 #1 January 31, 2005 ok so yesterday was pretty awesome.. I got to fly a helicopter... I was in the left seat and it was the first time I was at the controls...(yeah yeah yeah beer...) it was so touchy and was like the most extreme video game I have ever played... I got to fly about 20-30 feet off the ground down a windy river... that was way cool... just thought I would gloat... I kinda feel like flying the heli was like my first jump.... -y_________________________________________ this space for rent.
sum1mom 0 #2 January 31, 2005 Geez...I would have probably jumped out of it then!! Congrats.
Yoshi 0 #3 January 31, 2005 we only had about 1100 feet then total overcast.. That and I have jumped out of a chopper before.. the one I flew in fact..I had five jumps out of it from a couple years ago.. the flying part was better than the jumping part in my opinion... way too cool... -y_________________________________________ this space for rent. sum1mom 0 #4 January 31, 2005 Sounds like you really loved it!! I went up in an aerobatic plane not too long ago and experienced a high that is so different from jumping. Completely on its own separate scale....so, I know where you are coming from. <> I'd like to pursue both. But, I think ME skydiving is SCARY enough for everyone.... Breezejunky 0 #5 January 31, 2005 I was learning to fly a helicopter the same time I was learning to skydive. They were incredibly similar in that I knew I was really going to like it once I learned more and got over the fear. They were both thrilling to me but the fear was exhausting! DrunkMonkey 0 #6 January 31, 2005 The USAF HH-60 guy I work with said that flying a helo is like trying to hold a ping-pong ball under water with one finger, while balancing on a basketball. Good deal, Yoshi! $300/hr for helo was always too rich for my blood...
Yoshi 0 #7 January 31, 2005 yeah.. it was way touchy... every little thing you did with the sitck, pedals, and cyclic (sp??) made the heli move in different ways. and the best part was for the 30 minutes of flight (not taking an actual lesson, but the pilot happened to be a CFI) only cost $45... good stuff... -y_________________________________________ this space for rent. Stumpy 284 #8 January 31, 2005 Someone once said to me that helicopters don't really fly, they are just constantly in a state of controlled crash Never try to eat more than you can lift

flyingferret 0 #10 January 31, 2005 Helicopters don't really fly, they beat the air into submission.-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
Yoshi 0 #11 January 31, 2005 well... when doing the in ground effect hovering I was barely in a controlled crash I was very happy to have the pilot there to help out the out of ground effect hovering was pretty wierd also...but I did better on that.. -y_________________________________________ this space for rent. Slappie 9 #15 January 31, 2005 I fly Apaches!! Hind's, Blackhawks... ya ya I know it's just a game. But man does it take ALOT of practice. At least I don't take the chance of serious injury or death flying mine Helo guide to flying it's takes some serious skill to fly those things. Even in a game. Yoshi 0 #16 January 31, 2005 yeah... I am sure with countless hours and hours of practice I would be a little more comfotable in the front seats I didnt really feel like I was risking seariou injury or death... the pilot was there the whole time to take the controls if I needed him to. the hovering with the ground effect was the hardest part... -y_________________________________________ this space for rent. windcatcher 0 #18 January 31, 2005 you got to fly a helicopter? sweet! I was like, "um, I've never done this before, are you sure I can handle the breaks?" He was like sure, there's nothing you can do that I can't fix. so why'd you get to fly the heli, do something special? Mother to the cutest little thing in the world... Yoshi 0 #19 January 31, 2005 We had the heli at our dz for jumps, but we were weathered out... so the pilot was doing rides to fill and fly a few loads since the coud base was at 1100 ft.. after a few loads the pilot was letting some of the instructors and people that worked at the dz fly on the "rides" it was really cool... I just cant get my mind off of flying it.. I have flown a few planes and logged a few hours a couple years ago, and flew right seat in otters and caravans and such...but flying the heli was way more fun.... cant wait to do it again... I might even just go streight for my private rotary and skip the fixed wing for now... just one more thing to add to my list I guess :) -y_________________________________________ this space for rent.
