how to figure out gas money

Recommended Posts

Go to mapquest or yahoo maps, figure out your route.

Get the mileage.

Divide the mileage by the average highway mileage for your car.

That will give you a rough guesstimate of how many gallons it will take you to get there.

Add 20% as a pad.

Or if that's too much math, just drive until half of your gas budget is gone, then turn around and go back.

Hey, I dont know if this helps you ..... but dont you have companies over there that need cars delivered all over the place ... I heard that, that is a reasonable way of getting around..

if you're interested in figuring out your gas mileage on your car, send me a PM and I'll send you a spreadsheet I use to keep track of my truck stuff with...Anally, I know it costs $0.69-$0.71 per mile to drive my truck (figuring in gas, plates, insurance, maintenance, etc.)...

say about 40 hrs of driving

is that east coast driving or west coast driving.. or should i say middleof no where i-70 or i-80 driving...... i can go 80-85 on i-80 without worry but ass soon as i hit missouri or iowa i have to slow it down as i head east...... but if we say 40 hours of driving at 70mph that would be 2800 miles and with my car it would cost 152 dollars since my car rocks and i get great gass milage even going fast..... now take my rv for instance.... 2800 miles = 665 dollars!!!! ....... hope you get better milage than my rv.... so there is your range i could bet... between 152 and 665....... yeah i now it is big but plan for the worst and hope for the best...lol.....

In '03, I drove to the convention in the van of a friend. We drove straight through. Each of us drove for two hours. At the 2 hours stopping point, we filled up the van with gas and did restroom/food breaks.

You may want to shorten it to 90 minutes. If it is your turn to drive, you fill it up first. Vehicle owner must arrive home with a full tank.

how would you figure out estimate gas costs for a really big road trip? say about 40 hrs of driving? mostly on highways over a week and a half period of time. usually a full tank costs $25. and the car is a pontiac grand am.

Work it out after the trip, it will be easier just add up all your gas reciepts, job done....easy.
