Help with dinner

Recommended Posts

My wife has been working really hard at her newish job lately, and has been putting up with a lot of shit from her employer. Since it doesn't look like I'll be working today I've been doing some housework, nothing too big just finishing up the laundry, running the vacuum etc. I thought it'd be a nice gesture to make her something special for dinner for when she gets home. Only problem is I'm not really good in the kitchen. What I need is some ideas of something I could make that is kind of special but that I can pull of with limited kitchen skills. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is easy and very good.

You need a large/deep pan, like a Pyrex.

You need 2-3 packages of tortellini and a jar of your favorite red sauce and a good sized bag of your favorite cheese (something with a lighter taste).

Put the noodles in the pan, pour the sauce and cover with a thick layer of cheese. Put in the oven at 350 for about 30 minutes (give or take).

A good Pinot Noir goes great with this meal.

Some good sides are garlic bread, ceaser salad and some expensive cheese/crackers for an apatizer.

This is a fun/easy meal to make, its filling and very tastee.B|

If she's not an italian food type of gal, I could tell you how to make some very spicey red beans and rice...or some good porkchops or if you want dinner for tomorrow night, a good brisket (you need a good smoker for that though).

Grill up a couple good steaks with Tom Douglas' Steak Rub (Rub with Love line)

Make this green bean recipe.

Do something simple for a starch, whatever she likes (fettucini alfredo?)

Buy a good bottle of red wine to go with dinner and whatever she likes to drink while relaxing (e.g. in the hot bath you'll draw right before she gets home).

Get her favorite dessert take-out from a local restaurant. Note: if presentation is an aspect (e.g. creme brulee), ask if you can take the dishes home & bring 'em back tomorrow.

Prepare to be molested.

Thanks for the link...lots of good stuff in there B|

Also -
If she likes pizza - go get a "Boboli" and the sauce - and some cheeses - and stuff - pizza in 20 - 25 minutes.

Easy and good.
I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama

Man I'm too late, had to feed the boob monster....oh well crock pots are great if you got a big enough one. Mine is 7 quarts and it saves my life almost every day, because I can cook just about anything in it all day to tase great, whithout having to do anything but put the stuff in the pot....and having to feed a boob monster ever 3 hours it is hard to cook and do the housework and everything all at once

Nope not too late, I'll take all the suggestions I can get. Put some in my "Get out of the dog house free" file

do you have a big crock pot?

I second that... a crock pot is the way to go, you just put everything in it and then dinner is ready in 8 hours. California roasts are especially good. Just put in the roast, a package of those baby carrots, a bag of small red rusett (sp?) or white potatos, and some cut up onions. Then dump a package of lipton onion soup mix over all of it, cover, and let it cook for around 8-10 hours. Get it started right when you wake up in the morning and the house will have a nice aroma by the time she gets home and it will be delicious! ;)
