Honda S2000

Recommended Posts

I used to drive a Honda Prelude. I drove the piss out of it, and put well over 100,000 very hard miles on it. Until it's dieing day, it was bullet-proof. I will never second-guess buying a Honda.

The S2000 is gorgeous, but small. If we were in the market for a second car, I can't think of a better option.

I would not recoment it if it's your primary car, especially to a skydiver. Skydivers tend to have a lot of stuff to haul, and would definately do better with more storage space.

I hope it was ok to post these reviews of the M Coupe. It's an incredible car BTW, and relatively cheap too.

Review: 5 years later - still have it, won't sell it. Its the tightest, zippiest, power ride ever. Other supercars eg Porsches feel bulky by comparison. BMW created something very special and made it more so by producing a very small number - this car has classic potential.
Favorite Features: Powertrain/transmission, appearance - very edgy - still gets a lot of looks and questions. Although when my wife first saw it - she said "thats a nice looking honda civic" - guess I should have told her I was thinking of buying a car.
Suggested Improvements: Well its too late and frankly I like all the quirks - the darned power window, the feeling that the passenger is on top of the driver

Review: I LOVE IT,it attracts attention like honey attracts bees.Where else can you get a car that will keep up in a straight line with a vette and yet manhandle an autocross track or full race track.Torque? What fun this car can be,its got grunt from anywhere on the tach in any gear!Turn off the ASC and its light em up!Only 6000 cars made in 4 years for the US,you are likely to be the only one with a Coupe for MANY blocks around. This can be quite overwhelming when you arent used to the attention! This car truly is an example of one of my favorite quotes:A car is as close as man will ever get to creating something living
Favorite Features: ASC - Rainy Days Wide rear end Torque, Torque, Torque
Suggested Improvements: Nothing, Wouldnt trade mine for anything, wish I had an S54

09/09/2002 have you hugged your design team lately? by brishbah
Style: 2 Dr STD Coupe Rating 10.0

Review: This car was a perfect blend of sports car driving and gt tightness. Each ride, I wanted to hug the entire design team(yes engineers and body and interior teams). Favotite experience: walking to the car, getting in,starting it, adjusting body position, putting it in gear, tapping the throtle letting out the clutch---smile,smile,then realizing I can't wipe off the smile if I wanted to.
Favorite Features: Engine sound, responce and torque. Solid granite-like ride. Interior design. Exterior design. Boston green color always bring some nice comments. Oh, and that look from the rear. Perhaps the best example of rubber to the road and rear fenders execution ever!
Suggested Improvements: Make the seat bolster adjust to wider designed bodies. A shade for the moonroof would also help.

Review: I agonized over buying this car after not having a car payment for over 2 years. Each day that goes by, I know I made the right choice. What else can you say, this will be a car that will be legendary and desired by all enthusiasts for many years to come. No regrets. Can't wipe the smile from my face.
Favorite Features: Head-snapping looks and performance.
Suggested Improvements: Windows all the way down!!! Oh, well, production has ceased on these cars anyway...

Review: This car, hands down, is one of the funnest performance cars on the market today. The exterior styling is the hottest attribute on this car. I've owned it for over a year now, it always turns heads and receives thumbs up from passer bys. Cargo space is more than people expect, Hardon Kardon stereo w/CD changer is excellent. Its a unique purchase thats affordable. If your thinking of purchasing one, do it. You won't be dissappointed!
Favorite Features: Great power, better handling and braking. Great recipe for performance.
Suggested Improvements: The only improvement I can think of is being able to put the window all the way down. It current stops with a 1/4 inch sticking up.

Style: 2 Dr STD Coupe Rating 9.8

Review: I usually only keep a vehicle for one or two years. This is usually about the time I start to get bored with a car and begin searching for something more exciting. Not this time! I've been so impressed with my M-Coupe. I also own a 1999 911 Carrera and the M-Coupe for a little more than half the price has been just as much fun to drive. Absolutely no problems with the M-Coupe just fun, fun, fun!
Favorite Features: Performance aside, the exterior styling is my favorite feature of the M-Coupe. There are few enough of them on the road that it still turns heads.
Suggested Improvements: WINDOWS! Design the side windows so that they can be lowered all the way down. It would be nice to be able to rest your arm without having the window dig into your skin.

The S2000 is around 22-24K for a low mileage 2002-2003. Any other ideas for cars that are that much fun in that price rang?

MINi Cooper or MINI Cooper S. You'd get a base S or a loaded Cooper in that price range. I'd go with the S. I absolutely love my MCS.

the S2000 has an incredible engine... A very nice 2liter...

And the tyres specifically developped for this car were tested on the roads in my area.

Yes, we can have fun on our roads...:P

Stay away from BMW's that are a bit older. The have always had problems that BMW has never owned up too. Oil problems that lead to motors blowing and so on.

I personally love Audi, but I would never buy one. Any audi that has more than 50K in miles has something wrong with it garranteed. Dont believe me? Go find a used one, test drive it to a mechanic and he will find problems garranteed.

The WRX Sti is a great vehicle. Dont worry about the tranny. The only real concerns were from the early stage WRX's. The Sti is a different beast. I have driven, and friends with a few people who have 450+ to the wheels on them. Stock tranny, and 24+ pounds of boost. The WRX Sti is a great car, but over played by the boy racers.....which pisses me off because I am a founding member of www.clutchdrop.com, or the new england subaru impreza club back when the impreza was a cult car desired for its rally heritage. I am on SOA's direct mailer and have been flown to AZ for their ride and drive. They make great products.

The S2000 is a sweet car that has incredible skills. If that car is one looking at try out the Infinity coupe, the 350Z, the mini cooper S, used EVO, or if you want some fun as bang for the buck the Mazda Speed Protege.

Joe
PS- Stay away from the VW R32. The AWD system is snot and the car weighs a ton.

The BMW 3.2L I-6 (M3) engine has won more awards than just about any engine ever built. (Wards 10 Best Engines award for many years) I would have any engine/car checked out by a good mechanic familiar with the model, but I would not worry about it by staying away from BMW's.

I think the best BMW's ever made were the 30's of the late 80's. The new ones I dont like at all....I have read and had to many first hand experiences with them sucking arse...:S

LOL. I was talking to my friend last night he said the same thing. But if I get it and have the money it will get a new cat back exhaust system not for the noise but it does improve HP a lot, and helps reduce back pursuer. Not to mention a turbo system(but thats alot of $$$)

The spoiler hmmmm not sure about that:P;)

slapping a turbo on a car is usually not for a daily driver. You have all kinds of trouble tuning it and the maintenance and upkeep is expensive. Just something to think about.

Enjoy it. The most common problem I've read about the car is that drivers try too hard to drive it to the limit and they get spun. Enjoy revving that engine...I envy you a little. My Prelude will suit me for now...

The S2000 looks muscular, I think, in a way that is very hard to do without being gaudy/weird.

IMO the best bang for the buck is a Nissan SE-R specV. I picked mine up for about 15K brand new. It is the most fun car I have ever driven, and with a few simple suspension mods, it will pull damn near 1 G on the skidpad. It has a 2.5 4 banger and a 6-speed manual trans. FUN TO DRIVE. I honestly think that you would have to spend 30-40 grand to get a STOCK car that will handle as good as a specV will handle- stock. I get close to 40 mpg on the highway, and never spend more than $20 to fill it up. It also has almost V8 like torque - I kept up with a Z28 camaro up til about 50 mph, which was a complete surprise to me. Here are some pics...

I absolutely love my Infiniti G35 Coupe, but I don't think he could even get a used one in his price range. The Honda S2000 was one car I had looked at when I was trying to figure out what to buy, but I wanted something more luxury and less sporty this time around (had a Trans-Am before). The Coupe was just the right mix for me.

I used to have a 98(or was it a 97) Nissan SE
That thing handled like it was glued to the road. That’s the car I had that burned to the ground.
She did give me a lot of problems but I loved driving that car.

Thank you all for the advice. You have given more stuff to think about and I am taking my time before I buy my next toy.

Thanks:)
