stardog 0 #26 January 26, 2005 yhea. Id start working on the resume. If she is going to mention that you are 2 to 3 minutes late...i mean damn. what kind of work do you do that 2-3 minutes is such a big deal.
cloudseeker2001 0 #27 January 26, 2005 It is a power thing. And with this type of supervisor, you will never get ahead and you will always have to re-prove yourself everytime. That has been my experience-especially with a female manager. happythoughts 0 #28 January 26, 2005 Sounds like the manager is documenting stuff. The email will be the "previously warned about behavior that warrants termination" document. I'd start looking for something new or start arriving 15 minutes early every day.
Casurf1978 0 #29 January 26, 2005 Seriously start looking for a new job. She already has you on a list and its already documented. This can be used against you for future promotions and or raises. If you find a new job and decide to leave I would mention her in your exit interview.

wmw999 2,521 #31 January 26, 2005 What he said. Except that I'd make it Quote I'd start looking for something new and start arriving 15 minutes early every day. They teach you to do that kind of thing in manager school. It's how you unassailably fire someone. Yes, you can go to HR about this. But she's probably already gone there. She may be a bitch, but as management, she has figured out how to toe the company line. And no, not all females are micromanaging bitches. NWFlyer 2 #32 January 26, 2005 Quote No offense to the ladies but anytime I have ever worked for a woman she has been a micro-managing bitch. Always seems like they have a chip and something to prove... Small sample size but the most annoying micromanaging boss I've had was male, and the most trusting, least likely to micromanage is my current boss (female). I think what it comes down to is insecurity. It may be that depending on the workplace, women do feel they have to "prove" more to get the same credit for their work. That might lead to a greater likelihood to micromanage. Back to the situation at hand - have you tried sitting down and talking through how you like to work with her? Setting clear expectations and then working to meet them? I do that often with my boss and sometimes we change the frequency of our interactions to make us both more comfortable."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
Breezejunky 0 #33 January 26, 2005 Nice response. Defensiveness gone, kind of refreshing! I too am part owner of a business and even those who just breeze in at 8:30 on the dot bug my ass. If an employee is always early or on time I never care if they are late - even really late - once in a while because there is obviously a good reason. Employers always notice regular punctuality or the lack there of.
ChangoLanzao 0 #34 January 26, 2005 As others have said, this might be a power thing. If you don't want to quit, then your only choice is to get there on time. Here's something to consider though: If she really is a micro-managing bitch and this is about power, perhaps you can really drive her crazy by showing up early enough every day that you will be there before she gets there. Every morning, as she walks in, look at your watch.
sum1mom 0 #35 January 26, 2005 I'd fire you just for saying that JEFF. Seriously, the letter is not professional, as far a written repremand goes. But, if his boss is only adhering to policy then something needs to change soon. There are some companies out there that count "infractions" ....i.e, you are allowed 3 infractions per year/6 months/whatever before you are reprimanded, then the trail moves on to termination. I worked for a company like this when I lived in Dallas. It sucked. I had to fire my best friend. I say get the hell out of there....
Nightingale 0 #36 January 27, 2005 look for a new job. find one. leave your current job on your own terms, before you're asked to quit, because employers ask about that on applications. you don't like your job. find a new one. I had a total asshole of a boss two jobs ago. He would take away our bonus on a lease if we misspelled one single word or forgot a comma. He once took away a $300 bonus from me because I misspelled a resident's last name on an internal office document (the resident wouldn't ever see this, but if he did, he'd understand...his last name was Armenian and 16 letters long!) This guy was such a prick that out of a staff of 13, within a month, 10 had quit because of intolerable working conditions. Complaining to the district manager didn't help. He was her brother in law. So, I started quietly looking for a new job. I found one and gave the boss notice. That day, he went out of his way to be a total prick. Way out of his way. So, I called my new job, and asked if I could start the following day instead of in two weeks. They said "sure! can't wait to have you." so, I didn't say anything to the boss until closing, then I handed him my keys and told him that it was my last day, shook his hand and thanked him for the experience. He actually had the gall to ask why I was leaving. I just said "a $12,000 pay raise." which was the truth... partly. I was well aware that I was screwing him over by leaving him very shorthanded. I was the best leasing agent he had and he knew it. There was no way he didn't know it, because that month I'd had 27 leases and the next closest leasing agent had 3. and this was a usual pattern. So, I got my revenge by screwing him over, because without me there was no way in hell he was going to meet his quota, and he knew it. If he didn't meet his quota, the district manager couldn't help him, because the general manager was going to come down on him. When I last heard about him, he'd been fired and was back in the navy (enlisted). He always talked about how much he hated the navy. And I walked away to a $12,000 pay raise. Karma...gotta love it. gravityizsexy 0 #38 January 27, 2005 Sorry to read about this This is unnecessary and unhealthy stress. I mean honestly 2-3min. horseshit! Don't take my advice because it could ultimatly end up with you being fired. but here it is. Because, I've witnessed this type of behavior on several occasions. 1) Do not get frantic, walk at a slow, relaxed, but attentive pace after you get out of your car. Chin up. 2) primp the attire appropiatly 3) walk to you work area keeping pace.. CHIN UP 3* IMPORTANT: DO NOT!!!! look at the clock or your watch. I repeat DO NOT look at the clock or your watch. Be mindful, you are making a entrance. NOTES: If anyone bothers you before you make it to your desk or whatever, tell them you'll be with them in a minute. ANYONE!!! unless it's someone who you think deserves your attention. 4) Get morning coffee and donut (whatever) and make your rounds, otherwise munch at your desk. That 20min shit can't be happening though.... unless you have it like that. If you have to go through this lady for advancement your better off drugging her coffee and start rumors about her prostitution habits. I dunno how it is where you work, but if an employee came to me with that report of hers, I'd laugh and buy you lunch. Karma IS a bitch. I know of this personality. Their type is not too uncommon in the Navy. We got a name for them. . .Tech Pub Librarians; or, Gym Ball Hander Outers. Basically, where we put the losers with bad attitudes to keep them away from our junior sailors who are their favorite(for obvious reasons) targets. I'm surprised he actually got what appeared to be a decent job for him._____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Granted, she had a masters degree...in Fine Arts (Opera). Her previous job experience? Teaching 3rd graders to sing. No management, technical skills, or budget experience. New job description? Project manager for a software development team with 40 coders and a $17 million annual budget.
JustaBill 0 #43 January 27, 2005 The one thing I got out of highschool was from my highschool baseball coach. At the end of every practice he would tell us when the next practice or game was and always send us on our way with this quote...."If you can't be on time, be early" I live by this, I hate being late. As an example of what happens when people are late my wife works front desk in a motel. Her shift ends at 3. Her relief is constantly "a few minutes" late. By the time her relief gets clocked in and gets settled and they do their turn over from one shift to the other my wife doesn't get out of there until around 330. Well my kids get off the school bus at 345. By this person constantly being a few minutes late it makes my wife late getting home and puts my kids home by themselves for awhile. It pisses me off to no end. Bottom line is if you are supposed to be there at 8, be there ready to work at 8.------------------------------------------------ I've done so much, with so little, for so long I'm now expected to do everything with nothing forever
Marz 0 #44 January 27, 2005 The thing is I hate people who are late too!!!! This is the ONLY place I have a problem with being on time. I read lots of stuff on here, stuff I can use and stuff I'll let go, but in thinking about this more over the last few days, I realized that my on again off again lateness has to do with my state of mind around my job. I think i've maxed out the "experience time" at this job and need to move on. Msybe I'm subconsciously trying to make shit as a message to my boss... I am now in the process of talking to a few contacts, and I finally picked up my business plan again. In the meantime, I will follow advice and try to get in early. Today, I was 12 minutes early, and she was there. She noticed. Thanks for all the feedback. I appreciate the honesty!
