iceage 0 #26 August 10, 2008 Please forgive guys, and I mean all of you. I'm only at this a wet weekend literally but the instuction we were given was: Arch, Look, Locate, Release, Reserve, Arch. This seemed to work fine for all of us and on my first jump, our No. 5 in the group had almost made the decision to do so( felt he had an unstable wing) he decided to stay with it, pumping brakes which sorted it all out, but on the ground he told me it was clear as day what he had to do. Arch, Look(find them) locate(grab, or take a firm hold of with thumb inside the D ring) Release, Reserve, Arch. Again forgive me for being a cheeky pup!! hackish 8 #27 August 10, 2008 QuoteIf you've never pulled a ripcord in your life, you need to practice ! Very good point and no better time to do it than when you go visit your rigger for that regular repack cycle. To be honest I don't like it that much when people pull the silver before a repack because it means I've got this spring loaded pilot chute and a couple of feet of bridle in the way until I get to doing the repack. However, also understanding the benefit gained from it I do encourage people to pop the reserve when they bring me a rig. I am surprised by some people who don't want to see what's under those magical reserve flaps. -Michael
druvaughn 0 #28 August 10, 2008 I can offer, and though not actually a solution it helps, I have some over sized (plus sized) experience. Just before exit, I pull the suit tight right at the handles, and tuck any excess out behind my lift webs. Not really a solution, but it may help. Best, Dru- - "Baseball is 90% mental. popsjumper 2 #29 August 11, 2008 Quote...The funny thing that occurs to me is that NOBODY pulls ripcords anymore until they're in trouble. I'm so old school that I learned how to skydive on a ripcord, including a lot of 3 and 4 pin ripcords, which included a fair number of harder pulls that required an extra hard punch. Nowadays, nobody pulls a ripcord until the shit hits the fan. If you've never pulled a ripcord in your life, you need to practice ! Well worth repeating...again. Here's an good example of why... Girl bought a new rig. Jumped it a couple of times. Next jump she had a problem and her story (which, btw, conflicts with witness observations) was that she tried and could not physically pull the cutaway nor the reserve handles. They tested well on the ground with no more force than would be expected of any new velco but she claimed too-hard-to-pull anyway. Why did she not test it before she went out and jumped it? Fortunately for her, Airtec wrapped up another save.My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. However it does make me wonder how many ladies, or men, have read that and thought, what in the hell is he talking about.
