vt1977 0 #1 January 7, 2005 So I'm back from Eloy, bored and looking forward to a seriously drunken weekend at the AGM. Who else is going? Let the discussion begin! Vicki
mr2mk1g 10 #2 January 7, 2005 I'm going again. Actually booked a room this year! Not going to bother with the full dinner this year though as to be honest, it's a bit expensive for the quality of food you get.
vt1977 0 #3 January 7, 2005 I have a room booked for the Friday and Saturday night. Going to break my liver in gently this year. The dinner food is pretty rank, but I'm going again... Anyone want to bet on number of tables that get broken this year? Vicki
yoink 321 #4 January 7, 2005 My thoughts exactly... I'll be there again. Let's go for 6 tables this year!
vt1977 0 #5 January 7, 2005 OK, so far we have: vt1977 mr2mk1g Yoink Gremlin Can anyone remember how many tables got trashed last year? Vicki

yoink 321 #7 January 7, 2005 5 wasn't it? Although my memory is a little hazy... Edit: oooh... we should have a sweepstake to what the membership fee will go up to this year...

vt1977 0 #9 January 7, 2005 QuoteQuote we should have a sweepstake to what the membership fee will go up to this year same % increase as last year... Seriously??? Even with them removing cover outside of the UK? That would suck a lot. Anyoen have any idea/heard any rumours what figure we're looking at? Vicki
gordy 0 #10 January 7, 2005 Lets hope not that was just a guess.....although it wouldn't to be honest surprise me....
gremlin 0 #11 January 7, 2005 Lets hope that people actually vote against the increase this year. We are being ripped off - German insurance is less, cover is the same and is worldwide. Last year we were lied to - "if you don't vote this in you will not be able to skydive" Stand up and vote against it. Rant over. I'm drunk, you're drunk, lets go back to mine....
gordy 0 #12 January 7, 2005 I am sure they know the reaction they would get if they put it to a vote, so I doubt they will....skydiving in the UK, equivalent to the Jamaican bob sleigh team!
gremlin 0 #13 January 7, 2005 They have to put it to a vote - we (the membership) have to approve the budget - of which the insurance is a chunk. If we don't approve it thay HAVE to go away and look at it again.I'm drunk, you're drunk, lets go back to mine....
gordy 0 #14 January 7, 2005 Sweet! I suggest they start looking at alternative insurance companies quickly then!
gremlin 0 #15 January 7, 2005 We just need to ensure that the motion gets voted down. Last year too many people were swayed by the threats from the committee.I'm drunk, you're drunk, lets go back to mine....
alanab 0 #16 January 7, 2005 i so wish i could be there this year. you all have fun! thinkn of me when you are on the tables dancing!
mr2mk1g 10 #17 January 7, 2005 I'm not sure I agree that voting the budget down would have no consequences. Our insurance would run out at the end of the financial year and skydiving from that point would stop. That would give the BPA 2 months to find an alternative that is significantly cheaper (in order to get the vote through) and then organize a postal vote to go out with the mag. I'd hate to think of the financial consequences of them not hitting the deadline by even a week or two on DZ's who would be spooling up to hit the start of the season. That's if the second vote went through. I think actually voting it down would be a very dangerous game to play. It would be nice to see a very near thing though to give them a scare into actually taking the issue very seriously.... I wouldn't be surprised if last year went a good way to achieving that though. mr2mk1g 10 #20 January 7, 2005 It would also appear that Grounded has reformed and will be playing again - they're a wicked band, reason enough alone to go.
gremlin 0 #21 January 7, 2005 QuoteI wouldn't be surprised if last year went a good way to achieving that though. Do you see any reductions in our insurance? I see a reduction in our coverage coming up but no reduction in the cost! At least 1 DZ is threatening to pull out of the BPA due to their insurance policies and I would not be surprised if another doesn't follow.I'm drunk, you're drunk, lets go back to mine....
mr2mk1g 10 #22 January 7, 2005 I don't know if there's a reduction coming as no figures have yet been published to my knowledge (of course that doen't make it so, so if they have I'd love to see them). What does the DZ threatening to pull out of the BPA intend to do about insurance / the requirement to have BPA insurance to skydive in the UK or are they an overseas DZ? (Rhine perhaps?) yoink 321 #23 January 7, 2005 which DZ? And what are the ramifications? Would we need seperate insurance to jump there? Unfortunately people are sheep... I'm betting the insurance increase will be passed in the same manner as last year, with Nay votes being changed to Abstentions after 'It's the only option we have' speeches by the committee... and they know it.
