bch7773 0 #1 January 18, 2005 I just saw this movie (thank you divx) and thought it was fairly good, except for the ending was a little too drawn out to keep the surprise in it. Not as good as sixth sense or signs, but still ok. It did have some fairly good scary parts in it. what did you all think? did you guess the ending before it came or not? hooked 0 #2 January 18, 2005 I just watched this movie tonight. I thought it was good, a little scary (on the edge of your seat scary), but those times were too few and far apart. I did 'catch on' to the ending, but it was still good. J -------------------------------------- Sometimes we're just being Humans.....But we're always Human Beings. Douva 0 #3 January 18, 2005 MNS's films are too much about the surprise endings. They're like two hour brain teasers. He needs to let the surprise ending thing go and just try to make good movies. It's too hard to keep surprise endings a surprise when everyone is expecting a surprise. I guessed the ending of The Village from the trailer.I don't have an M.D. or a law degree. ccowden 0 #4 January 18, 2005 I thought it was a pretty big let down after all the hype. Plus the thing that really didn't make sense was if the adults were all in on it, why would they run the risk of sending the blind girl? Why not just one of them go into town? So big deal, they took an oath. And what would the chances really be for her to get to the gate, get the medicine, and get back without blowing their cover? It worked out a little too well for my taste.

Ravan 0 #7 January 18, 2005 I just watched it last night...I actually thought it was a great movie, the ending did suck a bit, but that is M.N.S's trade mark....he leaves it unresolved to make you think...may be the second one will be better Food, Fornication, Freefall

metalslug 36 #9 January 18, 2005 It was alright, but was also by far his least impressive work in my opinion. My brother, by contrast, loved it and thinks that people watch Shyamalan's films for the wrong reasons. People have come to expect the surprise, the twist, the brainteaser; and the less dramatic or more predictable this twist is, the more dissapointment viewers may feel relative to their expectations. My brother enjoys Shyamalan because he believes that they are all very well acted. No scene or character is over-acted or overdone. Despite the supernatural themes in some; the reactions, body language and behaviour of the characters in his films are very authentic, sometimes candid. Well, thats one view. MikeJD 0 #10 January 18, 2005 Haven't seen The Village yet, and I'm not sure I want to. I think each of Shyamalan's movies has been a bit less enjoyable than the last, although he's still miles ahead of most of the hacks out there. But yeah, the inevitable twist - fun for the first couple of films - is starting to wear thin. I reckon the surprise ending for the next film should be that there isn't one. Also for me a lot of it's down to the casting - Bruce Willis and Sam Jackson are always watchable, but I'm not a fan of Mel Gibson and I'm pretty indifferent to Joaquim Phoenix. I was amazed by Toni Colette in The Sixth Sense, though - did anybody else fail to recognise her as the same actress who starred in Muriel's wedding? Maybe so, but this expectation wasn't something I made up. They portrayed this movie as such and hyped it up to be one of the most dramatic films of our time. The expectations were set by them. On top of that, they convieniently released that "real" documentary about him right before the movie came out to produce even more hype. That was the cheesiest thing I have seen. The limos with the black windows, the crow landing by him during an interview, the hush hush of the actors....jeesh. Give me a break! Way over the top. I would say they certainly wanted you yo have HUGE expectations when you went to buy your ticket. To do all that in order to sell tickets and then not deliver, that is why I am disappointed. br0k3n 0 #22 January 18, 2005 "worst film ever.... I was on the internet in seconds registering my disgust" apart from revealing the main plot half way through the film, it only left the ending to guess, which lets face was pretty obvious ...... bigway 4 #23 January 20, 2005 just watched it and i would love a couple of questions answered. How did they afford to pay the government off to make it a no fly zone? how did they build the hoses? where did they get the paint for the houses and the wood and nails? How did they get all the chairs and lamps and plate there? i like the idea of the movie but it is a bit stupid considering there is noway you could pull all that off. Meathorse 0 #24 January 20, 2005 I've not seen it, heard very few good things about it. The end of Roger Ebert's (highly unfavorable) review of it cracks me up. Quote Eventually the secret of Those, etc., is revealed. To call it an anticlimax would be an insult not only to climaxes but to prefixes. It's a crummy secret, about one step up the ladder of narrative originality from It Was All a Dream. It's so witless, in fact, that when we do discover the secret, we want to rewind the film so we don't know the secret anymore. And then keep on rewinding, and rewinding, until we're back at the beginning, and can get up from our seats and walk backward out of the theater and go down the up escalator and watch the money spring from the cash register into our pockets.
