What kind of pet should I get?

There's been some great suggestions here. If you do decide to get a furry friend I encourage you to check out your local animal shelter before spending $$$ for a pet from a breeder.

You'll benefit several ways from this.
1) You'll be saving an animal that would otherwise be euthanised due to lack of space and animal overpopulation.
2) The extra cash could be used for jumps.
3) Mutts may look funny but they make great dogs.
4) you will feel good about yourself for doing a good deed.

i voted rabbit.. remeber, they make great inside pets.... you can litter box trian them, they are as clean as a cat once you have that done and they are just great... just make sure to interact withthem when tey are young and they will be supper freindly.... if you go this route my advice go to a private breader and get one not from a pet store... mostl of the time they will be cheper atthe breader than alocal pet store to.....

That's why I started by asking people's opinions and also doing some research before I make my decision! I just thought I should take the responsibility seriously and make an informed decision. I normally would always have said "DOG!!!" but now the first thing I ask is "Do you have hardwood floors?" If so, then I ask "Do you have plenty of rubber backed rugs?"

Look once at my now paralyzed 4 year old Cocker Spaniel and you'll understand. (we thought it was the ice, but we were wrong.) Any dog can jump and lose their footing. Smaller = more likely. Slippery floors raise the odds high enough for me to now have rugs all over this house.

Too little, too late for Sadie though.

I would bring the dog to DZ's though, and I haven't gone to one in awhile so he may be a regular at it once I find one nearby that I like. As long as he is friendly, okayed by my DZO and stays by my camper & out of the landing area the it should be fine, right?

Try a blue heeler mix, I have one mixed with a german shepard and she is wonderful, and so good looking. At 10 years old my vet doesn't beleive she is a day over 4.

A heeler sounds like what you're looking for in terms of size. Be careful what it's mixed with though. I grew up with a blue heeler/beagle mix, and she is ugly and has the worst bark, loud and yappy.
