CrazyIvan 0 #5 January 22, 2005 If you like HERO, also pick up a copy of THE HOUSE OF THE FLYING DAGGERS when available. The photography in those movies is amazing.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.

I haven't seen House of the Flying Daggers yet (not out on DVD yet), but I think Hidden Dragon, Crouching Tiger was the best movie to come out of China in a long while... better than Hero IMO..."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

BillyVance 34 #8 January 22, 2005 Funny, only the Chinese have come out with those outlandish long air-times with those jumps and running across roof-tops and tree-tops... They expect us to believe that shit is possible? Still, I give them points for originality!"Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

IMO, to understand and appreciate those movies, you have to take them as a legend or storytelling, let your imagination go wild.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. ChasingBlueSky 0 #10 January 22, 2005 The DVD allows you to use english subtitles or an english dub over. The spoken English dialog is not exactly the same as the subtitles._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... The extras show how he was looking for a more realistic swordplay than in the usual samurai type fights....its a very cool movie, now on dvd....and the dvd has one of his yakusa movies (sonatine) included in the box.... marc

quattro4Life 0 #15 January 22, 2005 The Leged of Zu is another good one. the story line could use a little improvement (i think some of it has to do with the translation leaving some gaps), but as for visuals and special effects, its very impressive. -bI'm not the percent you think survives, I need sanctuary in the pages of this book... larsrulz 0 #16 January 22, 2005 Quoteanyone see Zatoichi the Blind Swordsman? Japanese samurai movie /= chinese legendary movie. If you want to talk about Japanese movies, then anything by Kurosawa hands down, Ikiru, Yojimbo; hell watch Hidden Fortress and you'll see just how much Lucas stole for Star Wars. Although Seven Samurai will always have a place in my heart! I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF

peregrinerose 0 #18 January 22, 2005 We saw Hero and absolutely loved it! Crouching Tiger was good. Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring is another Chinese flick that we loved. I can't wait to see House of Flying Daggers. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
happythoughts 0 #19 January 22, 2005 A long while back, I saw a video called "Fighting Black Kings". It was one of the first videos that I have ever seen of an actual multi-style contact match. Most of the video is BS and hype, but the actual fight video was excellent. People competing and using different styles. You really got to see what was effective. Once of best films I've seen in years. The photography is excellent throughout. I may even go to the movies to see it in large screen format.

You really got to see what was effective. Maybe I'm biased, but NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY, could beat Bruce Lee when he was on top of his game. All the Bruce Lee movies had the best fight scenes - quick and brutal. Even Bruce had somewhat of a swagger, something that has been missing in most of the other Asian martial arts superstar actors..."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
