mailin 0 #1 January 21, 2005 I'm so fed up with the cold, politics, taxes, bad drivers, lack of jobs and cost of living here... Ok, mostly the freakin' cold. I hate it here... I hate the snow and am dying to leave after my graduation in May. We reached a compromise from either AZ or FL to Atlanta, GA area. Lots of jobs and the cost of living (rent) seems good. Tell me the good/bad about Atlanta if you're 'in the know'. Thanks all! JenArianna Frances
kelel01 1 #2 January 21, 2005 I'm in Atlanta!!! That decides it, right? Actually, Atlanta is fun, and there's a little bit of everything-- freaky hippie places in Little Five Points (which I love); yuppie places like the Highlands and Buckhead; Six Flags; Stone Mountain and several parks for outdoorsy stuff; 3 good dropzones nearby; and most of all, very little snow. It snows so infrequently that everything shuts down when it does, which is awesome. I know I'm missing stuff . . . tell me what you want (and don't want), and I'll tell you if we have it. ccowden 0 #3 January 21, 2005 Awesome city! Great people, (for the most part) lots to do/see, clean, decent climate, mountains and country not far away. Biggest downside- traffic. One of the worst in my opinion.
mailin 0 #4 January 21, 2005 I was hoping you were still 'around' Kel I want a place with some life! Hubby's other 'compromise' of Cincinnati, OH just didn't cut it. The jobs seem pretty good and the rent seems cheap, and 3 DZs sounds good (although not a deciding factor at all) and best of all - predictable (for the most part) weather. I want a place you can do lots in - a place with history and lots of do/see and experience. I love New England for those things but I can only enjoy them for 4 months a year which sux ass... mostly, I want to be warm... I'm so tired of the cold/wind/snow and its only January If we did decide to move it'd be late summer/fall before it actually happened. kelel01 1 #5 January 21, 2005 Oh yeah, good point, Chris. Traffic, and THIS IS NOT A WAKLING CITY. It's a driving city, so if you aren't cool with that, you wouldn't be happy here. IF and ONLY IF you live in midtown can you possibly walk anywhere (without driving first).
mailin 0 #6 January 21, 2005 I'm a very impatient person when it comes to driving. I hate RI drivers for that reason... ever driven in Boston or Providence? Does it compare to Atlanta? JenArianna Frances
mailin 0 #7 January 21, 2005 driving is good... we average 40k on our cars just for that reason - we love to drive JenArianna Frances
kelel01 1 #8 January 21, 2005 Actually, I think it's worse up there, but it's also just different. The roads themselves, however, are much better down here.
mailin 0 #9 January 21, 2005 ya, the roads are pretty bad up here aren't they? I've never enjoyed winter driving.... or 'after winter' driving when all the roads are eaten up by the weather Seems like a good compromise to me! ya! jumper03 0 #10 January 21, 2005 QuoteActually, I think it's worse up there, but it's also just different. The roads themselves, however, are much better down here. I've driven extensively in both areas - Give me Boston traffic any day. Jen, if you decide to move down here, I'll give you advice on where to live, etc.
 mailin 0 #12 January 21, 2005 eek! really? ugh... but the alternative to Boston is the T, which is no fun either. I just switched jobs from MA and upped my salary. There's a good market for software engineers here too, but as always experience will dictate how the market receives you. Cost of living I find pretty close with it being a little cheaper here for just about everything except property. Property is WAY WAY cheaper than Boston. It gets very cheap the further away from the city you are, but you'll pay for that savings in time with worse commutes.
