I absolutely LOVE Boxers; that's what I want...but hubby doesn't think it'd be a good idea. He is concerned with the drooling. As best as we've been able to tell, the drooling is pretty diet dependent. When we went to pick Ally up at 8 weeks old, her mom was hanging out in the breeder's kitchen. We got there just in time to watch her shake her head and throw globber all over the place. It was a little disconcerting to say the least, but ended up being no problem at all. When we were playing with her food, we noticed that sometimes she drooled more and sometimes less. We settled on a few things that left it at virtually non-existent. Luckily those were the same foods that didn't make her act like she was in a jump plane (i.e. gassy) Now she rarely farts and she doesn't drool nearly as bad as many dogs that aren't even known for that particular trait. My fave boxer things...the curly-C they make with their bodies when you pet them...and how they stand over your feet while your legs are crossed so you can rub their belly...and how they get so excited that their nubby little tail wag turns into a full body shake...and their worried little wrinkly looking faces...and, well, damn near everything. My boxer baby was a white, too. She had one big brown spot around one eye and floppy ears. Sadly, she also had a congenital kidney defect and died when she was only 5 years old of renal failure. That dog was a lot of work. I was giving her daily IV's during the last couple of weeks to combat the renal problems and keep her feeling okay. But, she was awesome and I still miss her even today. Is yours healthy? I'd get another white again, but I can't handle another one with renal problems. Poor thing had to eat low-protein (of course, expensive) food and the IV's and frequent doctor's visits and repeat blood work. She was worth the work, though. Take me, I am the drug; take me, I am hallucinogenic. -Salvador Dali
 Shell666 0 #25 January 21, 2005 QuoteHercules is a cutie! ... Is yours healthy? ... She was worth the work, though. Aw ... sorry to hear about your boxer. They do tend to have some medical issues (especially the white ones). And thanks! He is a cutie. And we didn't crop his ears OR his tail so when he's happy .... you know it! It's hard to believe that a tail can HURT when it whips your leg! Not to mention how many times something has been knocked off the table! He's pretty healthy. The only problem I've had was when he was a puppy, he broke his toe (what would be your ring finger on his left back paw) and I didn't know it. As he got bigger, his claw was growing sideways and it would dig into his other toe. It was pretty painful for him and I had to clip it all time (which he HATED!). Took him to the vet and he recommended trying to remove the claw and if he couldn't do that, he would amputate the toe. Luckily he only had to have the claw removed and he's doing great now (this was back in May). He doesn't spend most of his time on 3 legs anymore (unless he's outside without his booties on and his feet get cold). Of course, that little venture cost $450 but it was worth it to see him happy. Just last night he was bouncing around like a cat - up and down on all 4 legs ... to be honest, it looked pretty ridiculous.
