dorbie 0 #2 January 17, 2005 http://www.padi.com/english/common/courses/rec/begin/ Start with the Open Water Diver course, it's actually pretty easy if you find the study material interesting. http://www.padi.com/english/common/search/dcnr/search.asp?Country=US&State=IL++&City=Chicago&Name=&CourseType=OW&Submit=Submit+Query You can buy a package of study material that includes training & equipment excluding a few basic items like fins mask & snorkel. You may find better deals, have fun.

dorbie 0 #5 January 17, 2005 QuoteIt cost me about 1200$ including the basic equipment and my trip to florida to do my open water check out dives. Doing it locally with no flights and accommodation to pay for it cost me about $400 including most equipment rental, study materials, tests, pools session(s) and dives, add to that package the cost of fins, mask, snorkel, bootees & gloves all of which I retained as personal gear. I don't think it was the cheapest option, different stores/training centers probably have different approaches to selling & packaging this.
Acensky 0 #6 January 17, 2005 SCUBA rocks!!! My personal gear (mask, snorkle, booties, fins, and gloves) and the pool sessions cost me $600. I still rent everything else. Just like every other sport, once you get everything it is cheap, just air fills. http://www.scubaboard.com ^ great site for any questions and dive shops around the states. Have fun!
