DZ.com Weight Loss Challenge: Friday check-in

Started January 4, so after 3 days: 213/212/185/1

Made it a point to walk around the outside of Costco for 45 minutes yesterday while I got new tires put on. When I get hungry I drink a big glass of water before I eat, eat a small portion and wait while the hunger eases off.

Yeah, I remember how I lost all the weight originally, I can do this.

Somebody check my math: I weigh 212, I'm about 20% body fat. So my lean mass is about 170, right? Add on my goal of 10% body fat and my goal weight if I maintain my lean mass is about 187, yes?

-And for the record, I don't like starting out the day as a "Fat Bastard".

Nice hijack, though. :P

Well I guess I originally posted to the wrong thread so I am copying and pasting my original post. I am not all knowledgeable about monitoring my body fat but I am thinking about buying one of those body fat calipers ...

OK, it's Friday (according to master of the fat bastards this is the day we are to report in) so I am officially reporting in.

I of course weighed myself virtually naked because I'm thinking we don't want all those clothes in the way

So my official diet, work out program and all the other resolutions I made kicked in and started as of yesterday so hopefully this will be the start of something beautiful and if we all help each other out with this mission, there will be a lot of amazingly fit skydivers running around this summer . So far, I feel great. I will report back after the alcohol induced weekend on Monday but today my stats on the tonnage meter are as follows:

126/126/112/0

OK I am going to go do my 2 mile run, my push ups and my sit ups now ...

The good news? Down 5 lbs. The bad news? When I weighed in Monday I was 5 lbs higher than I thought I was. So... net net, I'm back to what I thought I had to lose.

The raw numbers:

To lose: 55 lbs
Lost so far: 5 lbs

And yes, I know it's all water weight - always happens when I go from carb-indulging to carb-restricting. But I'll take it.

I'll be posting mine based on starting weight, not last check-in. Going off last check-in gets frustrating (for me) when sitting on plateaus. Similarly, I'll only check in once a week, so we should agree on a day. Daily variations can get pretty disheartening, e.g. when you have a rough day but feel like you accomplished something, then find out the next morning you gained a pound. Weekly scale-hops remove some of that variability.

I don't have a problem checking in Mondays and Fridays. Weekends are ordinarily when the temptation to cheat is really strong, so a Monday check in coulld be a good incentive.

And, I will weigh myself daily, but only look towards a trend and not freak out by daily fluctuations. I've heard its better to weigh yourself every day but only count the AVERAGE at the end of the week.

The problem for me is limiting myself to a weekly stand on the scale. I'll be in the bathroom in the morning, a little hungry and muscle-sore, and think "this would be a great time for a pick-me-up...I'll stand on the scale and see if I'm allowed to feel good about myself today". LOL - I end up talking out-loud to myself half the time that happens, "NO! Cannot weigh self till [Friday]! Quit drooling over the scale you freak!" :$:D

You're right, "we" don't. But we might need photographic evidence to substantiate your claim. ;)

I Concur! Since I started today, I don't think i'll be going on a scale until friday!, ALTHOUGH, i might be anxious to see. We'll see!

I like instant gratification and must exercise self-control in situations where "instant" isn't appropriate. ;)

whats the deal with body fat
isn't it
0-12% too little
12-20% athletic
20%-? something=good
and then over some other number=obese?

we have this free body fat reading at our gym every monday
im too scared to try it:$
