grimmie 186 #1 August 5, 2008 I just returned from the Lost Prairie boogie. A great time was had by all as usual. However... I noticed one jumper boarding with a misrouted chest strap. Another had a reserve rigged wrong, with part of the reserve cable exposed. Another jumper had a poorly closed main flap, exposing some canopy line, right next to the pud. Get a gear check before you board the plane! And for the one millionth time people...WEAR YOUR HELMET FOR TAKE OFF!!!!!!!!! If a jumper politely asks you to put a helmet on, please do it! The spinny things on the wings don't always keep turning. A hard shell lid strapped to your chest won't keep your eggs from being scrambled.

And if it's not even strapped () - may even scramble somebody ELSE'S eggs as well, when it becomes a PROJECTILE under such scenario! Synapse 0 #3 August 5, 2008 I'm completely agree with you on the helmet issue... As for the incorrectly rigged reserve, that's got me stumped. Can you elaborate a bit? Was the reserve cable exposed near the reserve pin flap or am I completely off base with that? -synThey who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. - Benjamin Franklin
grimmie 186 #4 August 5, 2008 It ran from the pin to the shoulder area, jammed and sticking out of the flap a bit at the top, above the tabs. The rigger was taken to task by the party involved. I should have taken a photo. Not the first time I have seen it happen. Moral of the story, know your gear and check it out, often.
riggerrob 643 #5 August 6, 2008 Mega dittos on the helmet issue! I just survived a forced landing. A Pro-Tec reduced my head injuries to a mild concussion. they released me from hospital the same evening.
fff3 0 #6 August 7, 2008 I think I would prefer to be knocked out when my skin ignites, but with my helmet safely secured as not to cause any undue discomfort to my smoldering/mangled mates.
grimmie 186 #7 August 7, 2008 Many jump planes have pounded in without igniting, check diverdriver's webpage out. I'd prefer to not get knocked out and escape the pending flames.
