DrewEckhardt 0 #76 December 31, 2004 Quote You earned the money by the hours you worked in the office, but you took some money off the books to make a skydive, yet that amount isn't on the check. How is that dealt with? You're supposed to report _all the income you earned_ whether your pay was in money, goods, or services. Even bartered transactions are covered. If you worked for three chickens and a cow you need to include the value of those barnyard animals on your tax forms. The intuitive thing here is that the total which went into your account is revenue; jumping to improve your career as a skydiver (practicing to get that AFF rating or tandem video slots) is a business expense; and other jumps are profit. Rebecca 0 #77 December 31, 2004 Yep, covered under renter's policy. I had to make sure I had enough coverage though, since I can only get up to 10% of the total on property damaged or stolen while out of the home. you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk? So if someone breaks into your house, and steals / destroys a bunch of crap you can only claim 10% of your policy value? FGF #??? I miss the sky... No. If your house burns down or is burglarized you could collect the total $30K or whatever the limit is. If you're at a boogie only $3K of gear with you would be covered. Rigs can cost a lot more than that now.

But whatever.. :) I might have to call my insurance company AGAIN just to verify because I've never heard of this.. When i talked to them I told them that I had about $7,000 worth of gear I wanted insured, regardless of whether it was in my house or on a trip with me or whatever... They told me that was all covered up to 30K by my renters policy regardless.. But, I may bring up the exact question with them now that I've seen this... FGF #??? I miss the sky... Rebecca 0 #81 December 31, 2004 Yeah, what Drew said. I called ahead of traveling specifically to find out how the coverage works. With the renters policy I have, I'm covered up to 10% of the value while I'm on the road, so I had to increase the policy value. Definitely look into it.... you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel loquacious?' -- well do you, punk?
PhreeZone 20 #82 December 31, 2004 I claimed a camera that fell off in freefall. They just wanted to know the MSRP on a replacement camera of the same make. Cut me a check for $1300 (1800- 500 deductable) and my insurance raised by $5 a year. They need to keep me as a client for 260 years for me to pay that off Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Damn these days a couple of nice rigs, camera stuff etc, equals the cost of nice mid size car Gear used to be the cost of a nice 10 spd biscycle, still needed insurance though. R.I.P. R.I.P. mx757 4 #84 January 3, 2005 hey.. heads up.. don't forget to get replacement cost clause in your policy too.. most homeowners / renters policy will pay for things like a rig.. but then they'll say.. we'll rig was 2 years old... minus 30% ... etc but if you have replacement cost clause they'll pay full 100% to replace your stuff.. ChangoLanzao 0 #85 January 3, 2005 QuoteI tried getting my MTN bike($3000) and my rig(7,200) insured separately due to the odd value. STATE FARM said "you don't need that, it covered in your home owners policy, even if It's stolen an vacation". I still worry if it will work like they said>if it comes down to that. (if cailms are made like that=policy goes up too) I'm sure mine is covered in my homeowners policy. I haven't asked specifically about my skydiving rigs, but a few years ago, when some asshole baggage handlers in Miami International pilfered our bags and stole my SCUBA rig, my insurance company (Auto Owners Insurance) paid ... no problem. **********************
pringles 0 #86 January 3, 2005 I have had a cut away main covered. However they wanted a police report filed. I didn't understand and I don't think the insurance company did. So the police were called and the story was told to them and they put it on file. Once it was in a police report the insurance co. purchased me a new canopy (home owners). It was considered in-transit. One time when I was headed down to Florida I borrowed a friends tandem rig so that I could take my wife on some tandems while we were down there. I got on the phone and told my insurance company what I was up to and they told me it was covered up to something like 20 days. No extra money, just covered. So for those of you that travel and borrow a spare rig to get extra jumps, run it past your insurance. I also had a friend that was in norway base jumping. He had put his video camera in his backpack along with a can of soda. You guessed it. The can exploded and ruined the camera. His camera was replaced by his renters insurance. All I can say is that until you go check it out you really don't know how cheap it is. If you opt to not take advantage of it all I can say is good luck. Im glad I don't have to pay for another rig unless I want one. When you go talk to an insurance agent ask all the questions you can think of. They will let you know all the answers you need and if they don't know or are not 100% they will call the claims office and find out.
