livendive 8 #1 December 31, 2004 So I went through a break-up a few months ago and moved into a new house, basically starting over like I was 18 again in the "stuff" category. After getting the bare minimums for furniture & stuff, I still have expensive trips to the grocery store basically everytime I want to make something. e.g. Want to make mac & cheese (homemade of course, that boxed stuff is NOT mac & cheese)...oh wait, I'll need a colander and a cheese grater. Want to make chicken cacciatore...oh wait, I'll need a 13x9 and a whole bunch of spices. Two weeks ago I stopped & bought a can of corned beef hash on my way home to eat before going to bed, only to realize when I got home that I hadn't yet bought a can opener. Well last week I got a coffee maker, and this morning I went down to Starbucks and got a pound of Gold Coast. The gal working there asked me if I wanted her to grind it, at which point I realized I was going to need a grinder too. So $32 later, after spending 2 months in this house, I finally have the smell of freshly ground, fresh brewed coffee wafting through it. Coming later today when I head back out...canisters for storing flour, sugar, coffee, & rice. Little server-sized things for sugar & cream, and, well, at least one fucking coffee cup! skycat 0 #2 December 31, 2004 Do you have an Ikea in your area? They sell complete starter sets, of pots/pans/cooking utensils/trivets/ect, and then you can buy set 2 which is plates/glasses/cups/ect. When I got divorced it took 1 trip to Ikea and $200 to be able to cook anything I wanted to. btw....5 1/2 years later I still use those sets and love them, I've discovered that cermamic pans are the only way to bake, and the european can opener while needing a bit more elbow grease will never break or jam up. http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10101&storeId=12&categoryId=12190&langId=-1&parentCats=10108*12190&chapterId=13768&cattype=sub can opener http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10101&storeId=12&productId=10437&langId=-1&parentCats=10108*10215*10225Fly it like you stole it! skycat 0 #6 December 31, 2004 My desk is one of thier narrow table tops with a set of thier metal legs, then a bookcase on the end of the desk for storage. Yeah I know about the online store but it so isn't the same, you just can't touch it to see if it's what you really want. Cause as you know some stuff is great quality, some stuff is crap, some stuff is at a great price and some stuff is over priced. Fly it like you stole it! ltdiver 3 #7 December 31, 2004 QuoteDo you have an Ikea in your area? We -had- an Ikea in the near area while I was in college. Neat place to 'dream build' about the future way back then. After establishing a home I went back to Ikea and bought my kitchen table/chairs and china hutch! I knew they would have the quality wood I was looking for...and not break the bank in getting them. Imagine the disappointment when this Ikea closed. :^( Now the closest one is 2 1/2 hours away (and in a very nasty part of town there). So....there's an on-line Ikea? I love that place! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

mnealtx 0 #10 December 31, 2004 They don't have it in the PX... They've got Kronung (mmmm!), Dalmayer Prodomo (eh, it's ok), and the American coffees ( bleh...) Ten cups? Is that all? Amateur! Hell, I've usually got 5-6 cups down me by the time I've been at work for 90 minutes... And no, my hands don't shake, tyvm. I've been working comms for 20 years - when I go to the hospital for a checkup, they don't take my BP, they do a stick for caffeine levels! Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. There's an espresso shop between my house & my office, and another in my office builiding. I've got my morning routine down so well that I can get up a scant 30 minutes before I arrive at work with my first coffee in hand. Doing coffee at home every morning would cut dramatically into my beauty sleep, and trust me...nobody wants that. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" sunflower 0 #18 December 31, 2004 Sorry about the breakup. Starting over can be a rather character building exersice. Nothing better than a good cup of coffee (OK, many cups) to soothe the soul! ltdiver 3 #19 December 31, 2004 Question for the coffee wise.... We have a new coffee maker in our business office. No timer. What would happen if we forgot to turn it off at night and it didn't have much coffee in it (or none at all). Fire hazzard? ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
flyangel2 2 #20 December 31, 2004 Fire and the pot will get hot and explode. I suggest getting one of those cheap light timers and plug the coffee pot system on that.May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. livendive 8 #21 December 31, 2004 QuoteMy coffee pot is on a timer, and already for me when I wake up. No way I could even think about getting ready in the mornings without coffee in my system. I've got one of those as well. It'll now come in handy on those mornings that I'm in the field, so I can take a thermos with me. Several years ago I used a timed-coffee machine every day. I lived in a little loft apartment, and every single morning, my cat would jump off my bed, go to his litterbox, and stink up the place 10 minutes before my alarm would go off. It didn't matter what time I set my alarm for, he'd always beat it by 10 minutes. I was baffled (and somewhat irritated) for MONTHS before I realized it was the coffee pot triggering his morning ritual. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" I was thinking of a timer. Now I'm sure. Thanks. Exploding coffee pots are not a pleasant thing, me thinks. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

hooked 0 #25 January 1, 2005 Inborn ones. A few years back, there was a problem with some of them. I don't remember if it was a specific brand of coffee pots or not. I just figure, why take the chance, how long does it take to turn the pot on? I fill the coffee pot and add the coffee grounds, the night before. First thing upon getting up, is I turn the coffee on, go have some juice, whatever....come back and the coffee is ready!
