Do you know your geography?

Recommended Posts

All about the order they give them to you in. I've done this a pile of times since it was first posted and gotten everywhere from 48% with 100 mile error to 98% with 2 mile error (got that one just now). I'm good to go as long as I can take care of the East, midwest and Southern states first! As far as I know all those boxy states out west look the same!

This brings back awful memories of History class back in school. We had some sort of test (for extra credit I think). Teacher handed out three versions, one with a list of state names where you had to list the capitals, a blank map where you had to list the state name and capital, and one with 50 blank lines where you had to name the states and capitals without the help of a map.

Of course I got the completely blank one. I got 49 states and capitals listed and blanked on the 50th one. Go figure, it was New Hampshire, the state I had just moved from a couple years before.

This thing is kind of an eye opener. I mean, whoever knew that Colorado was so southern!
Killing threads since 2004.

One try, 94%, 14 miles, 376 seconds.

It helps that I had only just last week been studying my U.S. geography for the hell of it, having realized that I simply didn't know which states were which, in that confusing mass in the middle.

True, to a point. Like I said, I've been self-studying these things quite recently, as a coincidence to finding this thread. I have vague mnemonic tricks for memorizing certain states. Yes, if they give you some middle states initially, it's hard as hell, even if you do know how to label them on a standard blank map with the state outlines.

I remember the cluster of Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico as "U-CAN" Plus, they're the only ones that meet at a perfect "four corners." :)
My third or fourth attempt at the game, I got 98% with 11 mi. and just over 200something seconds... I think that's good enough to earn me going to sleep. :)

True that!! Or that Nebraska was so south, or that Idaho was so northwest... some of these things really threw me, boy...! I used to have NO idea where Missouri was, or Kansas...
