Drogue snatch force

I'm jumping 2 sets of Vector style tandem gear, both with the same kinds of main. However both have completely different characteristics. One has a great trapdoor and a slow snivelly opening. The other has a snatch off the back that often feels like a kick in the base of the spine. What are the differences in the drogues that would cause this?

Check the length of the "kill lines". Drogue collapse speed (trap door effect) is controlled by this measurement. The shorter the kill line, the more quickly the drogue collapses, and the longer the trap door effect. Simply tying an overhand knot at the base of the kill line can lower snatch force.

Damn, Bill! Are you sure you want to be telling people that without a drawing or service bulletin? You know how skydivers are. They'll be tying knots in all sorts of incorrect places.

Check the inner bridle length too running from kill line attachment to the drogue. If length is different this can be a reason.

He didn't say to "... go tie a knot at the base of the kill line..."



Anyway, I still think "snatch force" has more to do with an all-female 10-way than... err... never mind.
