soulshine 0 #1 December 13, 2004 I'm moving to Virginia this summer and Skydive Orange will be the closest dz. I read the reviews about it but I just wanted some feedback as to how good the dz is. Any attitudes? Cliques? How are the facilities, plane, and landing area? Feel free to pm me if it's something you don't want to post. Also, if you live in the area, any tips would be great! -Rachel Bombing for peace is like fucking for virginity! ~DEVIOUS BEEF~~FGF #69~
Pilotmonkey 0 #2 December 13, 2004 Hey- That place can get WILD. Those guys are freakin crazy good timers, If you like the wilder side of the after-skydiving scene than that place is awesome. I was there a year ago for a while. I liked the place. Good, open landing areas on and off the airport..The dropzone itself was being attacked by the Airport Improvement Construction plan. Had the earth scratched up all around them. Everyone there was about ready for the big equipment to go away. They are good people havin great times. Thats the DZ I preferr in Virginia. There arent really any bad attitudes-I found everyone to be pretty damn frendly. Go have a blast... Thinkin about chainsaws.......

DJL 235 #5 December 13, 2004 Fun people. I haven't had a chance to jump there this year, just stopped by for Friday night social calls while on the way to my own column of air."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
RkyMtnHigh 0 #6 December 13, 2004 They party hard..I know that much. Met a group of Skydive Orange jumpers at Eloy's Holiday Boogie last year and they wanted any excuse to get naked. _________________________________________

weegegirl 2 #8 December 13, 2004 Hey, alright!!! Nice to know we're not alone. I start my move tomorrow!! Heading down to Vienna, VA. Can't wait to go check out all the local dzs. I've heard great things about them all, but especially about Orange for the freefly scene. I also love that it's less than 3 hours to XKeys. Plan on hitting up that dz as often as possible. Once you get settled, let us know and we'll meet up for some drinks or something!
bkdice 0 #9 December 13, 2004 Quote3 hours to XKeys. Only bummer about that is you have to take 95, and that is sometimes less than fun to put it nicely. Make sure you come check out Skydive Virginia. I know everyone feels the love for their own DZ, but while there are other great DZ's out there, SDV has a community like nothing else I've ever heard of. I was a little freaked out by all the trees, but that's only because I'm used to jumping where there are lots of outs - just means you need to be extra careful when spotting so that you don't have to land off. But it's a beautiful place and the people all seemed to be pretty cool.
 soulshine 0 #14 December 13, 2004 Wow, I've gotten some great pm's and I really appreciate all of the input here. As you can tell I'm a newbie but I have saved up a bit of moolah and will be jumping my little ass off this summer! I like what I've heard so far about all of the dz's in the area...I guess I'll just have to try them all. For those that have asked, I will be moving to Charlottesville, Va to attend the VA School of Massage. So, if you need a massage keep me in mind...I will work for jump tickets! I just moved to Arlington three months ago and began driving down to Skydive Orange every weekend. The people there have been so friendly and have really welcomed me into their group. I have been pleasantly surprised with their openness (read: they love to get naked by the fire ) and their welcoming spirit. In addition, so many of them have helped me improve my skydiving skills as well. I'm so pleased to have such a wonderful new DZ home! I'd heard crazy stories. It wasn't as scary as I expected! Actually, very nice and a lot of fun! Make sure you go out and count the numbers! You might find it a little clicky just until you get to know everyone. Not because they are that way - they are just close knit - all know each other very well. The outdoor showers are the bomb - at least in the summertime.
 Join the conversation You can post now and register later.
