SKYWHUFFO 1 #1 December 16, 2004 I work for a fortune 100 company, anyway yesterday they pulled 4 project engineers into the managers office and told them as part of the new restructuring your position is not needed, thanks for working here now get out. Ten days befor X-mas and these people for the most of them have little kids and famlies. That is bullshit, four people time 2 weeks is not a great deal of money to this company why could they not have waited till after the holidays or moved them to another area or position. I am in sales so luckily this time we were not touched. Goes to show how the corp world works, the higher ups enjoy the holidays and those below are standing in the unemployment line. I just thought that was real holiday spirit and wanted to see what the other DZ.commers thought. Anyway, happy holidays to all of you and your families!!!!!! BillyVance 34 #4 December 16, 2004 I'd say they were nothing but a bunch of goddamn scrooges kicking down the Tiny Tims of the world. That pisses me off too. This would not happen at a company that fervently uses The Golden Rule, and I'm fortunate to work at one that does... christoofar 0 #5 December 16, 2004 If you are in IT and are considering forming a union, I would strongly urge you to consider joining forced with this group. WashTech is the same people who fought and managed to eliminate the decades-long practice at Microsoft of employing what people call "perma-temps..." temps who were treated like employees, got reviews just like employees and promotion/demotions like employees but did not get any options or a lick of benefits. Microsoft even kept dossiers on some temps they considered "problems" and managed to get them blackballed from consulting services around the Washington region, including forbidding anybody from giving out references to temps. Some temps had worked at Microsoft for over 10 years before they were finally brought on as employees. Sad. ____________________________________________________________ I'm RICK JAMES! Fo shizzle. Wish that would happen at Fidelity. My husbands benefits through his 'temp agency' (a co. owned by Fidelity) sucks tailpipe, yet he's considered an employee, gets reviews etc. JenArianna Frances
bdbrown 0 #7 December 16, 2004 Corporate america, well thats a funny statement. Tommorrow is my last day along few hundred other people at AT&T. Jobs are being taken by contract labor in India and South America. So Corporate America does not sound right to me... Should be Corporate Third world slave labor . Well at least somebody in a foreign company will be having a good Christmas and New Year --------------------------------------------------

CrazyIvan 0 #11 December 16, 2004 If you work for Corporate America, you lose your identity, and you are just a number, an object with a price, when that price gets "expensive" they change you for a cheaper one, or, if they don't want it, they just throw it away. It's all about the numbers, and all the "family" and "welcome to our company" that you read on their Employee's manual is just bullshit.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. Slappie 9 #12 December 16, 2004 The company I currently work for did something similar just on a larger scale. We bought a competitor in Midland Odessa area. Let them run as a division for 8 months. Then 2 weeks before Christmas, a VP flys into visit the facilities. Laid everyone off, closed the factory and moved a handfull to Houston. That was over 75 employees let go 2 weeks before Christmas. We're now in a merger / takeover (billions of dollars) by another company. So who knows what next year will bring me in the oil patch. I know many people will echo that sentiment, but I wonder how many of those people own stock, have mutal funds, or 401k's. If they do, they should look in the mirror so that they can truely see who's pulling the trigger. -Blind"If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it." happythoughts 0 #16 December 16, 2004 QuoteCorporate america, well thats a funny statement. Tommorrow is my last day along few hundred other people at AT&T. My last contract at AT&T, I was there for 2.5 years. Anyway, they had almost 80 people in our group. They layed off most of the contractors. The employees were saying, "You should become an employee. You'd have more job security." Three weeks later, they layed off the employees too. Of course, if you work at AT&T, you know about their management foulups. That place has some that are legendary (Comcast). Our project handled global accounts and billing. It made money at an astounding rate, time to get rid of that. AT&T deserves to be out of business.
