Damion 0 #1 December 9, 2004 i have a friend that is going to spend a week in Chicago...right in the heart of the city. does anyone know of a cheap place to stay? :D
Vallerina 2 #2 December 9, 2004 I know of cheap places to stay, but they usually involve couches in apartments! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
AndyMan 7 #3 December 9, 2004 By far the best way to get affordable hotels in Chicago is on priceline. Even though most of the hotel and travel websites list prices upwards of $150, I've found I can usually get rates at $50-60 for a 3-star hotel on priceline. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead. AggieDave 6 #5 December 9, 2004 Out of curiosity, what are the 3-star hotels like in downtown Chicago? I kinda figured it'd be like Dallas or Houston, but then I would think there's more room in both places to build out then in Chicago... Just wondering.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

AndyMan 7 #7 December 9, 2004 I don't see much difference in the base rooms between 3 and 5 star hotels. Both have good sized rooms, are clean and comfortable. The difference that I see between 3 and 5 is the levels of service. At 3 stars, expect to be opening your own doors, send out your own dry cleaning, and maybe not have office space or meeting rooms available 24/7. Obviously things change in the 5 star hotels once you start booking suites or penthouses. I'm sure someone who travels more than I will think differently, though. _Am__ You put the fun in "funnel" - craichead.
AggieDave 6 #8 December 9, 2004 Thanks for the reply. The bit of traveling I've done consisted of either 3-star hotels or sleeping in my truck, although I have stayed at a couple 4-star hotels, which was a fun treat. I kinda figured it would be nicer (as you alluded) in Chicago then else where, seems so.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." ChasingBlueSky 0 #9 December 9, 2004 Anything right in the heart of the city is going to be more expensive by default - and the prices go up doing holidays or when a convention is in town. Even the Holiday Inn in River East gets expensive. You have all the big names here of course - and then the unique ones like "W" and the House of Blues Hotel. I've had a couple stays at 4 and 5 star hotels in Chicago (Four Seasons, Drake) and they are amazing! If you can afford it, tell him to stay at the WestInn - they have the most comfortable bed you will ever sleep in. Priceline is good, as is hotels.com, expedia, orbitz, and a Chicago only site called Hotrooms.com._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... freeflir29 0 #11 December 10, 2004 The Oak Lawn Hilton is fairly disappointing for a Hilton property. I laughed my ass off the first time I stayed there. The reservation was for a "City View" room. What a view I had..........of the car dealership across the street.

Not that there is much to see but pure middle class suburbia main street. BTW - that building the Hilton is in has to be well over 30 years old now - and it's in better shape since Hilton took it over. At least its a short walk from White Castle._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... It's the Westin, part of the Starwood properties. The Heavenly bed is comfortable, and can easily be purchased from them if you would like. It is made by Simmons and is a no-flip(cheaper way to make a mattress and charge you more for it) I would not purchase this be myself, as you can find nicer beds at the same price that will last longer. Think Verlo. But anyway- The Westin on Michigan Ave is nice. Truth is the only Hotels I have stayed at Downtown are the Hilton and the Westin. I prefer the Westins because they are "Pet-Friendly". That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! It was just on the downwind side.
