Frenchy68 0 #2 December 4, 2004 I went several years ago. Last I heard, it had changed quite a bit. Including some people complaining they were not getting cell phone signals... I think it has become institutionalized. But I can't really talk, as I haven't been there for a while. I don't remember everything I did there (), but it was a blast! stuffit 0 #4 December 4, 2004 I saw it near Red Mountian a few years ago close to an off roading spot that we always go to. It was on a big lakebed. We rode past all of these weird dressed people that seemed to just be wandering around aimlessly. I dont really know what the point of it was. We just stirred up some dust and left. debonair 0 #17 December 5, 2004 If you are going to Eloy for the Xmas Boogie, track down Bryan Burke. He's a very active and imaginative participant of the burning man activities. scottbre 0 #19 December 6, 2004 Funny how something that used to be all about shunning social mores and getting away from the real world is now an "event" that all the cool kids go to where every other person has some kind of camera or cell phone. Funny how people will actually pay $200+ to go out in the middle of the desert. Last I checked, wondering around in the desert only required stupidity, not money. hehe. bryanburke 10 #21 December 6, 2004 I've been to Burning Man five of the last six years. All but one of those was with skydiving friends. (We were too disorganized to get a plane in 2000.) From a loose bunch of northern California jumpers with a Turbo 206 in 1999 we have gone to a multi-national group of about 40 jumpers with a cool King Air. Check out www.burningsky.org for details on the skydiving group. It's a cool group of skydivers that anyone can join but we don't take walk-ins! www.burningman.com has info on the general aspects of the event. It is an amazing place. Yeah, there are more people every year and many of them are just gapers and posers coming to join the party. Yeah, it gets more expensive every year - the general admission, not the price of getting the plane there. However, there remains a substantial population of very creative people and even though some will say the glory days of Burning Man are passed, it is still worth a trip. After taking last year off to get some perspective, I'm planning a new skydiving art project for BM 2005 and am already getting psyched. If you will be out at Eloy any time this winter look me up; I can show you some videos and give you detailed info. Or, send me an e-mail via "manifest at skydiveaz dot com" and they will pass it on to me. Bryan Burke
Guest #22 December 6, 2004 I've wanted to go since day one, but I think the novelty has worn off and it's no fun. "Nobody goes there anymore - it's too crowded!" -- Rodney Dangerfield. Desert Blast is the one I wanna go to... mh .
fireflytx 0 #23 December 6, 2004 I was going to go this past year but the only way I was gong to go is if I got to spin fire under the burning of the man, but you needed a group and a choreographed sketch, which I thought was ridiculous. I would think just getting your groove on and feeling the vibe would be what you want to do at Burningman not some staged already planned out fire spinning. I always have more fun with an unchoreographed routine with other spinners than with something so planned out that you take out the groove I think Burningman is about"Well behaved women rarely make history"
Ducky 0 #24 December 6, 2004 I have some friends who go each year, most are artist. They have uttered words of it growing, but losing it's mystique. kinda like Woodstaock was cool in '69, and sucked ass in '99. The popularity of it may kill it. I aslo get the vibe that it's a lil more in depth than just a big desert party with supersize artwork as some people perceive it. None the less here is a link to my buddies bad-ass sculpture/statement from 2003. http://www.templeofgravity.com kwakSometimes your the bug, sometimes your the windshield.
