Have you gotten rid of your land phone line?

Recommended Posts

I think cells are still stuck with triangulation, since they are, well, mobile. Vonage, since it's not mobile, had to conform to 911 standards, yet are not regulated like land lines, for now. Best of both worlds.http://www.vonage.com/features.php?feature=911

I last had a land line in fall of 2000. Ditched it when I moved. I love my cable modem and cell combo. I'll never pay for a land line again.B|

I ditched the phone and its recorder for Voice mail on the cell. No matter where I go I can have access to my messages. No needing to call home and see if I have a message anymore. My Verizon plan has taken me from Z-hills to Perris to Skydive San Marcos to Great Lakes Skydivers to The Ranch with out an issue.

I have Verizon as well and have been happy. I am also thinking about ditching the land line. What plan do you use? I'm a little concerned that if I go over my minutes, the charges will pile up fast.

i have a 39.95 plan that is nights/weekends/in network free, 400 minutes otherwise.

I never go over, but my whole family and s/o have verizon as well. In Network rules. :)

I got an awesome plan with Verizon that they don't offer to new customers anymore. Since I very rarely travel, I have the Local Digital plan. 39.99 for 600 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends, Unlimited In-Network Calling. My bill is normally 56 dollars though cuz I pay 9.99 for 1000 text messages which I don't quite use as much as I used to.

Verizon is awesome though. I can't remember the last time when my phone cut out on me.

I currently have a nationwide plan which is very nice and I keep the land line for long distance calls when at home. Seems pretty redundant.

It's been something of an adjustment, but not having a land line has been a good thing for me. I no longer have to pay for a phone line that no one but telemarketers call.:(

A year ago I ported my land line number to Verizon Wireless. Use cable for Internet access. My monthly cell bill is $39 for Americas Choice 400 Anytime plan. [400 general mins, 1000 Natl In-Network mins, Unlimited nite/weekend]. $2.99 for 100 text msgs.

I had lousy service with Cingular (travel to Tucson I had NO service at all).

Verizon is good, m'kay.

I'm going to, just as soon as we get the Tivo up on our network. The only phone calls I take on the land line phone are my family (they can call my cell very easily), and telemarketers. No thanks. I'm paying like $35 a month for this?? The network adapter for the Tivo will be here in about a week, then I'll be cancelling the landline.

Haven't had a land line in almost 4 years...

I do sometimes miss talking to sales people...:S ok, not really...:P

I priced the cost of a landline when I moved here last and it wasn't worth it... like $25 dollars a month for the most basic service and that didn't consider long distance service...

I like my high speed internet.

I would have abandoned my landline a year or two ago if it wasn't for the fact that there is no line rental on it as it comes free with the high speed internet and cable TV package I pay for.

There's never anything on the bill - certainly less than a £1 or so per bill.

I've been living by cell phone for the last 3 months. Just moved into a new house a month ago, got my computer out of my old house a week ago, and turned on a land line the next day. Now I'm wondering why. I no longer own a telephone that plugs into the wall (and don't plan on buying one), so the computer's the only thing hooked up to it. That means right now I'm paying $24/month to AOL and $25/month to Verizon for dial-up access...the same price I'd pay for DSL or cable-based high speed access. I need to upgrade my computer and then ditch the land line and go to cable internet access!

I haven't had a cell phone before, but everytime a relative or friend comes visiting I run into problems hooking up with them & making plans, etc. because I don't have a cell phone.

Ditto. I think it's hilarious how we acclimate to new technologies. 10 years ago I had no problems hooking up with family/friends, even though none of us had cell phones.

How many minutes? What time do nights start?
They add up quick!! IMHO 500 anytime + 7pm nights is a minimum to replace your home phone, more if you have to talk to a g/f or spouse frequently.

I've been using my phone a LOT in the last 3 months. I get 800 anytime, 3000 night & weekend, and unlimited incoming calls. Except when I got stuck in the field at work for a couple weeks straight, that's been plenty. Then again, with free (ok, pre-paid) roaming in 10 states, nationwide long distance, 250 text messages per month, and 10 megs of, um, data transfer or whatever it is, I pay $75/month, which seems to be more than any of my friends.

hmmm, but even back then we had problems sometimes...your friend has come into town, but you're driving somewhere, you're not sure whether your friend is at point A or B yet, and there are no pay phones around,,,etc.. it was always a problem, its just that now there's a solution to it.

so I signed up for it...now I gotta learn all the little features on this newfangled contraption, consarned it.:S

how do I pickup voicemail messages? they never explained that to me.:P do you just dial your own number, or what?

I have operated on High Speed INternet and Cell phones for about 5 years now... I would not do it any other way for any reason.. I get a kick out of watching my friends get all those telemarketer calls, something I have not delt with for that whole 5 years
