ChasingBlueSky 0 #10 November 17, 2004 Hopefully my setup will run it, otherwise I will have to wait for my roommate to get off of his system to play it on there. ianmdrennan 2 #11 November 17, 2004 QuoteI hope its better then Doom3 because towards the end of that it got extremely repetitive.. Not so far IMO. It's pretty much the same old same old, so far. Run, shoot, etc. The only REAL difference I've seen so far is how interactive everything is. That aside its just another FPS. While D3 got boring towards the end, sure, and it didn't exactly break FPS ground, it did scare the crap outta me which was exactly what I was looking for. So far my impression of HL2 is a regular FPS with pretty graphics and some cool interactivity. I'm not disappointed by any means, but I'm not exactly excited either. adamjenner 0 #12 November 17, 2004 my setup is an AMD 2.6GHz processor with a ATI Radoen 9200 , 600mbs ram and it runs pretty good on mine. I haven't had any problems yet.

For a FPS, it could be boring if you look at it that way. Try to look at all the other effects and physics and you will appreciate it more. The physics, character animations, and expressions in this game blow every other FPS game out of the water. I forsee HL2 as game of the year. Better than D3 and Far Cry, IMO. Btw- been playing for 5 hours straigt tonite...time for bed. [:) ] Butthead: Whoa! Burritos for breakfast! Beavis: Yeah! Yeah! flyingferret 0 #20 November 17, 2004 Agreed! I have not played it yet. But I went through all this when D3 came out and everyone was claiming the opposite..."Same old stuff" Yeah, ok, I think everyone on the planet knows now what FPS is. It is no longer a groundbreaking genre, the question is what you do with the pieces. D3 made you jump, especially with the lights out and 5.1 sound. So, the question is what does HL2 do with the engine? Is it a big engine demo or is it more? The beautiful thing about HL1 was the story/interaction/exploration. It might not have constant non stop action, but it flowed well from thoughtful puzzles to quick response tactical shooting. There is a school of thought that argues the success of any new FPS will be judged by the ability to mod the engine, ie the next countrestrike. While I agree with this to a degree. Initially, when you get home from the store, you want some bang for the buck. And for me with D3, it was 25% the wandering around interacting for 30 minutes, and 75% the first time my ass left the chair when something came around the corner.-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI. If you buy a FPS game you expect LOTS OF SHOOTING, plus some decoding, puzzle braking and things like that, but, wasting 1 hour just to figure out how to get out of a room and by doing that you MUST use one of the "new features" of the engine, it's just freakin' lame and boring. And Counter Strike, it looks better, but "same old maps"__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you.

I fell asleep before my roommate came home with his copy of it last night, so I haven't seen it yet. All of the video clips I have seen of the gravity gun make me want to play it right now, but then I heard that weapon isn't in the multiplay version (at least until the mods roll out). I've been playing Halo 2 this week and other than looking really good, I'm not overly impressed. There is nothing new to it yet other than the fact I can hold two guns at once. Far Cry and Doom 3 were two of the best games I have played in a while because they did things that others haven't been able to do. Other than that I have been bored by the latest Silent Hill, Metal Gear, etc. Maybe this is why I have been playing those 80 games that come on the Atari Classics cd._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... billvon 3,064 #23 November 19, 2004 In some places it's creepy it's so good. Graphics rival the first Myst game, which was done on a supercomputer - except these are real time, running around 40 frames a second. (Of course, the latest Myst has gone real time as well.) I wrote my first 3D simulator for a 1mhz 6502 in an Apple II about 20 years ago. With a 60 point wireframe, it could hit 4 frames a second on a 320x200 screen - and that was running only the 3D program. Now it's hard to tell a videogame from a movie. CrazyIvan 0 #24 November 19, 2004 QuoteIn some places it's creepy it's so good. Yeah, especially those deranged jumping zombies , but, if you really want creepy stuff, stick to Doom3 or Painkiller.__________________________________________ Blue Skies and May the Force be with you. billvon 3,064 #25 November 19, 2004 >stick to Doom3 Not a big fan of Doom 3. You walk into a dark room, the lights go out, something attacks you. Gets old. I also don't get why the lighting is so bad. I mean, they spent millions on that engine; why not use it to actually, you know, let you see stuff?
