piisfish 140 #3 November 13, 2004 several questions ? - what kind of deployment system is that ?? With free cable exposed... and she has a BOC... - why is her PC camera not running and seems to show images (on the screen) which are MEGA stabilised... (other cameraman, plane during freefall etc...) - you can see her under canopy, slider down to the risers and next shot the slider is stuck half line... how come ?? etc etc etc...scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

WrongWay 0 #10 November 14, 2004 Safety Warning of the Day: People with reactions of "OH SHIT" when standing in the door of a plane have no business wearing cameras. crotalus01 0 #14 November 14, 2004 suspension of disbelief works most time, but almost never with skydiving in movies. never unstows the breaks, doesnt flare, lands really softly for not flaring, lands under reserve really softly without flaring, etc. not as bad as Point Break where Keanu executes perfect deltas and participates in a 5 way RW flawlessly on his first jump with NO instruction, but still...gimme a break. B.J Worth comes to mind and among others some of the FF camera folks like Tom Sanders and Norm Kent also. When you meet them at a DZ their not movie stars/stunt people. Just skydivers and video people. Never met a reak movie star except Marilan Chambers. Sorry no pic, trust me R.I.P.
craichead 0 #16 November 14, 2004 Quotesuspension of disbelief works most time, but almost never with skydiving in movies. never unstows the breaks, doesnt flare, lands really softly for not flaring, lands under reserve really softly without flaring, etc. Well, suspension of disbelief for movie skydiving doesn't work for skydivers because we know better. It's our world--of course we're going to notice and point out the inaccuracies. Whuffos don't know any better, so they think it looks really cool. Quotenot as bad as Point Break where Keanu executes perfect deltas and participates in a 5 way RW flawlessly on his first jump with NO instruction, but still...gimme a break. Douva 0 #20 November 15, 2004 I thought the scene was pretty well done. They replicated an old ripcord deployment system when there was obviously a BOC deployment handle, but filmmakers frequently do that because audiences can identify a ripcord pull easier than a throw-out. My absolute favorite part of the clip is that the theme from The Spy Who Loved Me starts playing just as the canopy opens, in a nod to the snow skiing BASE jump from that James Bond classic. What most people don't realize about technical inaccuracies in movies is that the priorities of most filmmakers put technical accuracy well below dramatic impact. If 90% of the audience is going to have a stronger dramatic impact to characters talking in free fall and pulling ripcords, the filmmakers will generally take a little creative license and let those inaccuracies slide. Point Break wouldn't have been nearly as dramatic if Bodhi and his friends had driven Agent Utah to the airport, put him through a six hour AFF Course, and then done a dialogue-free Level 1 with him. "So, Johnny, did you see me giving you the 'legs out' signal? By the way, we've taken your girlfriend hostage."I don't have an M.D. or a law degree. I have bachelor's in kicking ass and taking names.
