Icarus Neos experiences

I read everything about the neos on this forum. Unfortunately there is very few information about this canopy and mostly the posts are 2 years old.
It sounds like an interesting canopy to me.

What are your experiences with this canopy?

I like mine, despite a couple of "positive" openings. Most openings are Crossfire-like.

The canopy flies a very steep angle when in full flight, but can fly pretty flight in brakes.

Good long deep flares

I demo'd a Neos at Zhills last Xmas and didn't find it all that impressive.

The one I had, steering lines were WAY to long. I had to wrap them once around my hand, otherwise the flare started around my hips....so there wasn't much range from my hips to full arms length.

The front riser pressure was super high I found. I've been flying a 107 canopy for the past 3 years and found the pressure super high compared to mine. Once the speed built up, I couldn't let up or pull down to adjust the dive....was only able to lock it in place where I started.

The openings were very soft, but not much on heading. I demo'd a Velo96 for about 30 jumps while I was there as well, and the openings were much more on heading, so I don't think it was my body position that was always out of wack.

All in all, I didn't leave with an impression that I wanted to go out and get one. It wasn't a bad canopy, just not something that suits me.

Although their customer service was fantastic...very nice, and very helpful.

I didn't like it much. Openings were so-so. After opening it REALLY wanted to spin up, and it took a moderate amount of effort to keep it from doing so. Reminded me of an older Diablo.

Once brakes were released it was Katana-like - steep glide, moderate to low front riser pressure, decently long recovery arc.

I have about 200 jumps on a neos 99 loaded at about 2.0. The openings are nice and soft and on heading. Once I got an RDS for it, the openings were still soft but a little squirley. The performance is great. It dives pretty hard and has a decently long recovery arc. The rears have a lot of power compared to a katana or crossfire. I would say that it is in the same class as a katana as far as being a canopy to transfer you to a crossbrace. I personally believe that it is a much better swooping canopy than a katana because it has more performance and flies closer to a real crossbrace than a katana.

The neos doesn't seem to be a very popular canopy. There are not so many people who have nothing but praise for this wing, not like for a crossfire.

Currently I am jumping a crossfire 109. I was thinking about the neos as next step. I really love my crossfire though, so probably its a good idea to stick with it and just downsize.
