Need Computer Help

Recommended Posts

Not really knowledgeable about the internet. I'm very careful with my work email to never open files etc. but it seems I have some kind of virus or something. I'm getting several emails a day saying things like "delivery error no reply" and it's to addresses that of course I haven't sent anything to. Is it a virus? or am I on a SPAM list of some sort? Is this removable? I have no doubt if I open the "file" to find out the "problem"as they suggest, all hell will break loose!

PM CrazyIvan..he knows his stuff..plus he has nothing better to do. ;)

You are right...well, the second part.

Ok, not necessaryly is a virus on your system, but, it won't hurt if you perform a very serious scan.

What happens sometimes is that your email address gets picked up from your server, is not hard to do, so, any address residing on the server can be read, therefore, used and you already know what happens.

Then again, I strongly suggest you scan your system using a different scanner than the one you already have, you can search this board, I've posted some links, as well as many other geeks.

Any questions, you know where to find me.

After you get the virus out, get adaware, it should stop you from getting just about any virus, read up on it, you'll figure out why.

antivirus software combined w/ adaware and a good fire wall will make you really safe against a lot of the average virus stuff

Uhhhh...last I checked, Ad-Aware dealt with spyware/adware and didn't do fuckall for viruses. Adware and spyware are not viruses, they are annoying, but viruses they are not.

hi there, its not nes a virus, unfortunatly what happens is that some people out there collect email addresses they then try to send out srandom spam some addresses dont work or thge account is closed or the person is using disposible email addresses thats when you get mailer errors! you can do a couple of things to protect yourself check out yahoo

A lot of the undeliverable mail things you get may not mean you have a virus. I kept getting them a while back and I think I've figured out why.

When people write those trojan programs and attatch them to e-mails (i.e. funny_photo.jpg.exe) they usually try to grab all the addresses from the user's address book and send copies all over the place. But some of them pick random addresses from the book and use them in the "From:" header of the e-mails. This makes things more chaotic, and thus, harder to stop.

So now you have e-mails coming from other people's computers, with your e-mail in the "From:" field, going all over the place. And when a service provider that has a virus scanning program set up, or just doesn't recognize a particular address gets the message, the only place it knows to send the error to, is you.

So definately run a good virus scan on your machine with recent updates, but I wouldn't pull your hair out if your scan doesn't find anything and you keep getting the messages.
