Michele 1 #27 October 19, 2004 QuoteBut apparently a good rule of thumb is to divide your age by 2 then add 7 rounding down. So 39/2 = 19.5 + 7 = 26.5 = the minimum age for you to date... So, according to that, I should be dating a 26 year old? Whoooooooo hoooooooooooo! Jack, enjoy yourself, enjoy your time, and develop the friendship part. The rest will happen as it's supposed to be, or it won't...and that's just fine. Good deal! I'm pleased you're a happy camper. Fast 0 #31 October 19, 2004 I love being at an age where half the girls want to date people significantly older and anyone younger means jail time.... Whatever though, if it works it works.... PrairieDoug 0 #33 October 19, 2004 QuoteSo, according to that, I should be dating a 26 year old? Whoooooooo hoooooooooooo 'fraid not. My understanding is that the rule only applies to men. Women seem to be more constrained (by "society") on the "younger than" side. Don't feel bad, though -- you are free to push the limits on the "older than" side as far as you please. somethinelse 0 #35 October 19, 2004 Personally I think it's much more common for dynamic, active guys to be attracted to active &attractive younger women and vice versa. CLASSIC really. Younger women can be attracted to you just cause your COOL, good looking and Exciting... - HEY AREN'T ALL SKYDIVERS EXCITING?!! Plus older guys ususally got it together financially, right? (Some sweet young things look for a "Sugar Daddy" so careful if that's a possibility!) But all that aside, personally I'll consider +-10 years. I like the reply that said, divide your age in half and + 7, round it off= good age. Have fun & REALLY get to know the woman... Just my $.02! Blues - LiLa. It's freaking hard to find someone that is on your same frequency - why put more restrictions on finding them by limiting the age? 18? fine. 50? no problem. It all goody in the hoody. But she's divorced with 2 small children, and has more maturity than a lot of the childless 30- and 40-somethings I've dated. I guess having kids makes you grow up in a hurry. There were TONS of guys lined up. ALL of them just dying to speak with her. I don't play that. I'm not going to "get in line" with anyone. If someones attracted to me, then there'll be no line. She came to me last nite at the bar and spoke for awhile in between working. She made contact, not I. We'll become friends, and we'll see. She's done a few things to indicate she's attracted, yet, at the same time, it could be just because she's a sweet girl. Time will tell. I intend to ask her out shortly, however, I'm not going to hurry that either. Hopefully though, I'll have the pleasure of her across from me at a dinner table shortly. The thought of seeing those eyes over a pair of flickering candles, well, blows me away. I'm also looking forward to learning more about who she is. He started as the next door neighbor who dropped her off at high school when he was 37 and she was 15 (he was my grandmother’s age.) John F. Kennedy was 36 when he tied the knot with 24-year-old Jacqueline Bouvier (12 year difference.) From what I’ve read, older men younger women tend to fare better then older woman younger man. There’s a maturity thing and a parent-child component that can be an issue. Since you’re about a generation older, values come into play. Ultimately, it’s all about how you feel which pretty much renders all opinion irrelevant. Some interesting things about attraction--if she has a resemblance to you, that’s a powerful lure—people are attracted to those who look like them. The resemblance lies in the symmetry of the face and shape of the body. If you find she mirrors you (mirroring) when you’re conversing (posing in the same manner) that’s often an indicator of attraction. If laughter comes easy, that’s significant too. Studies show that fear on a first date (such as rollercoasters, bungee jumping and skydiving) heightens attraction. And, above all, duration of eye contact. I read something that said people are more likely to hop in the sack on a first date with someone who’s very funny, then one who’s not. This brings me to a point you made. Wait before getting intimate. I was talking to a counselor who told me to wait before getting intimate whenever I meet that special someone (wherever she is.) When I think of that I ponder the impossibility of reason. Anyway, her point was that sex early in a relationship makes it a focal point of the connection, often eclipsing the most important aspect of all—developing a deep friendship. Essentially, time spent on the interactions that build an enduring bond, elevates the sex, deepens the romance and tends to result in more fulfilling, longer lasting relationships. My goodness I’m a wordy bastard! I guess my 2 cents ended up being between a buck three-eighty and eleventeen dollars! Good luck dude! The feeling itself is a statistical impossibility. Cheers!
