freeflir29 0 #1 October 22, 2004 So I was bored the other day and walking around in the Nashville, TN airport. Decided to go do some window shopping in the book store in order to help kill the 2 1/2 hours I had to stand around. So....I spot some funny things like a "Darwin Awards" book. But it's paper back, small, and $15. No thanks.....well....I was looking over the magazines and spotted the current issue of "Plane & Pilot." Right on the front it says "Best Budget Birds! Own a plane for the price of a car." Like an idiot.........I bought it. Now I find myself going to sites like www.aso.com and dreaming of my own hangar. The aviation bug is nipping at me again. WTH did I EVER buy that magazine?!?!?!?! Someone save me before I spend all my money and several other peoples!

freeflir29 0 #3 October 22, 2004 QuoteI just started PPL ground school three weeks ago!! I've been flying off and on (Mostly off) for MOST of my life. Unfortunately, I was never serious about it and have only logged 53 hours I think. Still haven't finished my PPL. I need .1 of goggle time, a long cross country, written, and a check ride. I could easily do all that in about 2 weeks if I'd just get off my ass!

freeflir29 0 #13 October 22, 2004 Quotei'll teach you how to survive a plane crash!! Cheese and Rice!!! Had a forced landing once due to engine failure but have never crashed while I was at the controls. Can't say as much for riding in Army helos. Glad you weren't broken! Remember how the saying goes...........that was still a "good" landing cause you walked away. It just wasn't great because you couldn't reuse the plane. Muenkel 0 #19 October 23, 2004 Clay, If you want to do it, do it now while you're still single. When my dad retired a few years back, his plan was to get his pilot's license and buy a plane. He was a pilot in the military, but that was many years ago. Well mom stepped in and stopped it. She told him that it would terrify her. He honored her wishes. He still gets the plane mags and I can swear that I see him drooling as he's reading them. _________________________________________ Chris
freeflir29 0 #20 October 23, 2004 QuoteWell mom stepped in and stopped it. I would have to tell her to pack her shit! No woman is going to steer my life like that. Hmmm.....maybe that's why I have been VERY single for the last 7 years. In fact....that's also pretty much why I got divorced. Wife says...."Get out of the Air Force." I said...hmmm...they offered me a great job. No....it took a couple years but it happened.
rickjump1 0 #21 October 23, 2004 A suggestion: Subscribe to Trade-A-Plane Online (you will not be disappointed), buy the plane, learn to fly, and take the time to introduce flying to kids. It's really disappointing not seeing hungry looking kids hanging around airports like the old days (lawyers, I suspect). A lot of very nice people encouraged me to fly by giving me a ride. PS: Never throw away an outdated chart. Pass it on to a teacher or give it to a kid and show him how to use it.Do your part for global warming: ban beans and hold all popcorn farts. Muenkel 0 #23 October 23, 2004 QuoteI would have to tell her to pack her shit! I don't see that happening after 48 years of marriage. Anyway, my mom's cool in many other ways. It's not like she keeps a leash on my dad. If she does, I just don't want to know about it. _________________________________________ Chris
freeflir29 0 #24 October 23, 2004 QuoteI don't see that happening after 48 years of marriage. Yeah........my parents have been married for something like 38 or 39 years. Talking to them individually you'd think they couldn't stand each other. I think the truth is closer to "They wouldn't know what to do without each other." Just the other day my Mom was bitching about my Dad. He was headed out to Montana for a couple days. She sees him getting ready to head to the airport and notices that he has no jacket. She tells me "I'm not taking care of him anymore. He should know if he needs a jacket or not!" I told her "Mom, He's 72 years old. You can't take care of him for almost 40 years and then just stop!" Geez.....am I going to revert to being 8 years old again someday? Need my Mom to tell me to put on a coat. Old people are funny!
freeflir29 0 #25 October 23, 2004 QuoteA lot of very nice people encouraged me to fly by giving me a ride. Yeah......I grew up riding in small planes. All my Dad's friends had planes. We had a 150 for a few years. I did my first Solo in that plane. Wish I had made better use of the opportunity. Half the reason I want to finish my license is so I can take my son for rides and maybe even teach him to fly in a few years. Dammitt......he turns 16 in seven years. I better hurry!
