antifnsocial 0 #26 October 23, 2004 My Dad flew and I have friends who fly. It made me want to for sure. I look on it as special memories before he passed. I share it with him and feel close to him when I am up there.

Stacy 0 #28 October 23, 2004 older people are funny. There are a few married couples in my assisted living. they have later stages of dementias and alzheimers disease, but still can remember to tell each other to tie shoes, put on a sweater because it is cold, it's kinda neat to watch. __
peacefuljeffrey 0 #29 October 23, 2004 Quoteive got my license!! i have my IFR checkride next week little nervous do it clay then you can be like me!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck, man! IFR, huh? I've thought about getting that rating, too, but haven't set out down that road yet. For now, VFR flying is enough for me; I can't see myself specifically making IFR trips enough to keep those skills current, even if I did get the rating. It is said, though, that IFR skills can be very very helpful even in VFR. You can fly VFR all the time and then one time get stuck in IFR conditions, and you'd better be able to fly "like hoodwork" at least for a little while! Trust me, I know how weird it is to try to fly simply by looking at airspeed, attitude indicator, altimeter and VSI just when it's dark out, let alone cloudy. It's not easy to trust instruments when your inner ear is screaming the opposite! -Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" peacefuljeffrey 0 #30 October 24, 2004 QuoteQuoteI would have to tell her to pack her shit! I don't see that happening after 48 years of marriage. Anyway, my mom's cool in many other ways. It's not like she keeps a leash on my dad. If she does, I just don't want to know about it. My mom was the one who got my dad an intro flight back in 1982. That gave him the start he needed: turns out (I had not known) he'd always wanted to fly. Then he went on to get his pilot's license and has been flying for more than twenty years! As far as I can recall, Mom NEVER flew with him, and whenever he did fly, she was always nervous, and got angry if she didn't hear from him right away when he landed! (This was before cellular phones were all over, too!) Now, my dad -- who did a tandem skydive back in October 2003 -- wants me to call him (or he calls me) after a day of me skydiving. I left him a voicemail joking about how he wants to hear from me so he knows I didn't die! and he, in effect, said, "Yeah, pretty much." LOL! -Jeffrey-Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... rickjump1 0 #31 October 24, 2004 Hey Airtwardo, what is that thing? It looks too big for a Pitts. Is it a Skybolt? Happy landings.Do your part for global warming: ban beans and hold all popcorn farts.
rickjump1 0 #32 October 24, 2004 Flying is like skydiving; you will find girls who can do it better than you. A lot of little girls who could never afford to fly as a passenger, look at me in wonder when I tell them they can skydive and fly when they grow up.Do your part for global warming: ban beans and hold all popcorn farts. airtwardo 7 #33 October 24, 2004 QuoteHey Airtwardo, what is that thing? It looks too big for a Pitts. Is it a Skybolt? *** The "London" pic is a 747... OH!...you mean the Biplane... It's a Great Lakes... Basically a 3/4 size Stearman... They made them way back when... then made them again in the 70's. It is aerobatic...but way underpowered with a Lyc 180. It was a kick to fly around... but way to tight to get a sport rig on and get out... A Pitts (S1 & S2) are both smaller and have an enclosed cockpit, a Skybolt looks almost the same but is a little smaller, and is a homebuilt. ..Oh...She's the pilot..not me! I was relegated to ground crew when she flew contests or air shows! ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
