Eating Disorder

Recommended Posts

A friend of mine has lost around 25-30 lbs over the course of a month. She's down to 105 when the Dr. says she needs to be 135. I'm really concerned for her health. Earlier today she told me she was getting really dizzy. She's been getting a lot of headaches/migranes lately too. I have been trying to explain to her that her headaches are most likely caused by very low blood sugar and her body is just devouring itself, but she just doesn't get it.

I don't know what I can say or do. She's only eating one small meal a day right now, and merely drinking water when she is hungry. Today she admitted that she was afraid of getting fat. I did my best to explain to her that she was no where near fat, and only making herself more and more unhealthy by not eating enough.

This is a girl that I met online and haven't met in person. We've been talking several months and gotten very close. If anyone has dealt with anything like this and has some information I could really use it. I want to help her but I don't know how. :(

So she is telling you shes losing all this weight? And telling you shes eating one meal per day small day herself or are you finding this out from other people?

This is just my opinion, but coming from someone who has been there, this is not "typical" behavior of girl who may have an eating disorder exactly...it seems as if its more of a cry for attention combined with some issues. Most people who are anorexic are very secretive about there lack of eating. They keep it quiet and they would not sit there and say they've not eaten and dropped all that weight. In fact, they usually try to hide it.

All of the other things you have said are signs of an eating disorder...but there are some things that are particularly odd about it too....especially the line about "down to 105 when the Dr. says she needs to be 135" Did she tell you this? If she is pointing out to you that she ways this much but her doctor says its nit enough, then, to me, this is more of an attention issue than anything.

Those suffering from an eating disorder desperately want to lose weight and they will do anything possible to lose it...they will not point out that they are underweight since this only causes attention being brought to the issue and attnetion means someone is going to convince them to stop what they are doing and this is the last thing that this person wants. The less obstacles, the easier it iwll be to lose the weight....do you see why this girl does not fit this?

I hope this post doesn't come off as sounding rude or anything, its just that certain people have suffered through anorexia and and know what a hell it can be. Seeing somebody use it as an excuse to get attention really bothers me....

*daizey*

Yes she is the one that told me this. I hope that she wouldn't use this for attention. She started telling me the details yesterday. She says she doesn't understand the big deal...ugh I don't understand anything (go figure). She hasn't been talking to anyone else about it, at least not on my forums or my game servers.

Your post definately wasn't rude, and has given me some more to think about. Thank you :)

This is nothing to mess with.

Intervention is required and required as soon as it can be initiated.

I lost a sister in law some years ago. A wonderful, loving, beautiful, sweet person.

She starved herself to death.

She'd of never gotten away with it here (home, St. Louis), but she was in Chicago, away from everyone, and by the time they got to her, it was too late.

One of the most heartbreaking moments of my life. I wish I could've seen her.

I loved her tons. She was truly an angel. The fact that we couldn't help her, that it was too late?

Heartbreaking.
