jceman 1 #26 October 18, 2004 1*:0:0 *Right quad puffed up the size of a softball when I hit Deland on Saturday -- Had to limp back to the car with my shit and get it iced/elevated. No, I didn't do anything to it -- it's just reacting to the arthritis in my knee. Calling the ortho doc in the AM. It reacted nicely to the treatment and was mostly normal today, then tonight while I was watching "NFL Primetime" it decided to blow up again; sitting here with the leg up and iced again. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?
PLFKING 4 #27 October 18, 2004 I thought ground rush at 2000 ft was cool, but ground rush at 400 ft is killer. Don"When in doubt I whip it out, I got me a rock-and-roll band. It's a free-for-all."
skysprite 0 #28 October 18, 2004 3:4: a lot by now I'm sure... 1 new jumpsuit, 1 new altimeter, 1st time jumping from full altitude Saturday a 15 second delay, and a 15 second delay that was supposed to be 20 - realized that after I threw my pilot chute that duh, this is a 20 second not 15 you dummy! . Sunday the weather was a little funky with low-ish clouds so got out and did my first exit other than the poised exit off the strut. Got on the step, and pushed backwards into back loops. Man was that fun! So much that I stayed for another jump and my JM let me go to full altitude, same exit, told me not to count but to wave off at 4k, pull by 3.5, doing backloops, stability, backloops, etc all the way down. Also first time spotting! Not to mention my Dad came out today and got video from the ground...first jump I had an awesome landing, second jump I flared to high, released it by accident and zoomed forward about 5 ft above the ground, and made a big clunk. I did a plf so it didn't hurt that bad, but I guess the clunk was loud enough that everyone was shouting to me asking if I was okay. I didn't hear them - just popped up and started wrapping my lines. But guess which landing everyone wanted to see video of? And see it multiple times complete with "oohhhh ouch!" after each clunk. What an awesome weekend!! I can't even tell you how fucking cool everyone at SDNM is!!!~skysprite

jkwon 0 #31 October 18, 2004 The usual:7:1 Great jumps this past weekend with my usual freeflyers. Then my first cutaway after a "baglock". Why in quotes you say. Well after I pulled I noticed I was under a good canopy looked up and it was in the bag still...I get to the ground and witnesses say as soon as they saw me fall away from the bag they saw the canopy starting to inflate. :( I figure I made the right decision by chop chopping it. At least I'm alive to tell the story. Oh..to make things even better...found the main in a tree 70 feet up...found the free bag in another tree 70 feet up...and found the cutaway handle. :) Got the main out by climbing using timber spikes and some climbing gear and the freebag is being extracted tomorrow. All in all a great weekend. OH...Introduced 9 "whuffos" to the sport...I think that puts me up at 28 people that I have convinced to go skydiving in a year.--joe HISPA #69 The Best Band in the WORLD!!! freakshow 0 #32 October 18, 2004 0:1:1 After a 2 days of sitting around in the rain we managed to get our new Turbine 207 off the ground for 2 loads. 1 jump 6-way round, it was freaking cold. B.L. (the brain)
AggieDave 6 #33 October 18, 2004 QuoteI get to the ground and witnesses say as soon as they saw me fall away from the bag they saw the canopy starting to inflate. :( Just because it *started* to inflate after you chopped it does NOT mean (repeat after me: "It does NOT mean") that it would have opened correctly while still connect before you reached your hard deck. At that point you may have accellerated (being stood up) to a point of having an opening speed well beyond the operating range of your canopy, thus having an opening (remember now you're low) that could have possibly damaged the canopy and required a chop anyways. OR you may have been seriously hurt from a very hard opening. You deployed, you didn't have a landable or apparently fixable canopy, you chopped, got under your reserve and saved your own ass.
