happythoughts 0 #53 October 7, 2004 QuoteQuoteI only lie about how much money I make if I think it would get me laid. I have to lie to chicks at work all the time. It's gotten me a few numbers so far. I'll tell them the truth later though. It's good practice since I'm normally such a horrible liar. They usually dig it though! It seems that it introduces an element of fairness when you lie to women. "Being in a management position can be such a headache." "Really, what kind of stuff do you do." "I'm responsible for directing people. I tell them what to do." "Like what?" "I take their money, stamp their hand, and tell them to walk straight ahead..." KawiZX900 0 #54 October 7, 2004 I frequantly don't put gas in the car and just stare at it for days on end. start looking for the repo man next week. Accelerate hard to get them looking, then slam on the fronts and rollright beside the car, hanging the back wheel at eye level for a few seconds. jtval 0 #55 October 7, 2004 well if we're talking taxable income I'm only around 25,500. with BAH BAS Im about 37000. with my bonus and occasional vidiot I made about 48,000 this year. how much of it goes to skydiving? well this year not much but usually 200 jumps per year X 20 per jumpticket. 4000.00 jsut in altitude. nevermind travel (gas, plane tickets) ,meals, BEER, repacks and gear maintanance, the still camera I broke and the video cam accessories, the occassional donated jump ticket, feeding people who are in town. and thats not all of the SKYDIVE related expenses I would say I put about 50,000 into skydiving per yearMy photos My Videos
ManBird 0 #56 October 7, 2004 QuoteThis should be interesting. Now what percentage of that monet goes to skydiving related stuff. Funny that you mention it. On request of my girlfriend, I recently figured this out. Expenditure as follows: Jumping (Jumps, gear, and travel) - 40% Taxes, SS, insurance, retirement - 20% Bills and Rent - 12.5% Food (including beer) - 11.25% Transportation (Gas, insurance, maintenance, bus and train) - 6.25% Geek Toys - 6.25% Gifts and Holidays (mainly for my girlfriend) - 1.25% Miscellaneous - 2.5% She thought I spent more than half my income on jumping. That's only after taxes. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
dcvet 0 #57 October 8, 2004 I havent jumped much this year so it hasnt been very expensive. BUT, My most expensive year was 2002 where I bought a new rig, video, a 10D, 2 trips to florida, WFFC, several other Boogies and weekend trips, and a whole bunch of other skydiving stuff like jumpsuits, helmets, etc. I also did about 40 coach jumps. I think the grand talley for $$$ spent on skydiving that year was a little over 30 grand.. About 28% of my income from my day job.
scottbre 0 #58 October 8, 2004 Yep, I definately spent way more money my first year. But I think that might come in cycles. I have a feeling I'll be spending a lot on skydiving next year as well. pilotdave 0 #60 October 15, 2004 Ugh... I had to do the math... Between March and September, I spent 14% of my net salary on jumps. When I factor in tunnel time, travel, hotels, a couple of skydiving related purchases, and a tandem jump for a friend, it goes to more like 20% or higher. And that doesn't include a half a tank of gas for each round trip to the DZ every weekend. My wallet can't wait for winter! Course, that'll include one or maybe 2 trips to FL. Jeth 0 #61 October 15, 2004 I shudder at what I've spent on skydiving just in the last 3 months! (Since I started) Let's see.. it comes to about $1836. Thats just for my 10 AFP jumps and rental cars to get to the dz. I still need to pay $1030 to finish AFP. Then, of course, there is the money to buy a jumpsuit, altimeter, helmet, goggles and a rig. If I can't get a rig next year, then I'm gonna be spending $50 a jump x 50 = $2500. Yikes! Oh, wait, this thread was on what we make. Ok, I make $70,350. So thats only 5% of my income on skydiving. (Not bad! Man, I don't know how you college students can afford to skydive! But I guess I haven't mastered the art of living cheap... I have a doorman, dog walker, and dine out 3x a week. Oh well. I lived on ramen when I was in college, so I'm through with that. But I could still barely pay the rent. kudos to you guys who find the money to jump. "At 13,000 feet nothing else matters." PFRX!!!!!
