Christopher Reeve -- dead at 52

That kinda came out of nowhere. Paralysis aside, I didn't realize he was in bad health. [:/] Blue skies duder.

Being a quadriplegic brings its own set of health risks, and it is from his paralysis that complications led to his death.

I'm reminded about another outstanding individual who went through similar trials and tribulations - former all-american college linebacker and all-pro NFL player Derrick Thomas. Although Derrick lived a lot less after his accident (car wreck in snowy conditions), he too died from complications resulting from his spinal cord injury. One day he was just smiling and talking, and all of a sudden his eyes rolled back and he went into cardiac arrest and was gone.

They're both gone physically, but man, the memories live on. What a heck of a job Christopher Reeve did acting as Superman. What a heck of a job Derrick Thomas did terrorizing opposing quarterbacks for the University of Alabama and Kansas City Chiefs...

While it may forever remain folly to hope for never-ending human life, people like Christopher Reeve breath never-ending life to human hope.

Nicely put.

A very brave man indeed, and a good example for human spirit and determination.

It's not everybody who can succeed in show biz, and then when it all goes South, change the way scientists and physicians (and politicians!) think about paralysis.

Go easy, Chris.

SUPERMAN: Easy, miss. I've got you.

LOIS: You've got me? Who's got you?"

I thought I saw somewhere they're making a new Superman movie. It will suck. Chris Reeve will always be Superman to me.

Ironic. I just bought his Superman 4 movie DVD collection last month and watched them all before Nationals. Premonition? [:/]

RIP Chris Reeve - the original Superman,

Nope, there was at least one other actor the played Superman before Reeves.

I don't care, he will always be the original, and greatest, Superman in my book.

That's just silly. The original movie Superman was George Reeves.

He had been playing a role, btw, on Smallville helping the new Clark Kent understand his destiny. It was very cool seeing him on that show.

It's odd, watching parts of your childhood fade away, isn't it? Despite the fact that I didn't know the guy I had always hoped that he would accomplish his goal to walk again.

Yes, they are making a new Superman and if I am not mistaken it will be out the summer of 2006. Bryan Singer, the director of both X-Men movies, will be filming it. The bad part about that is Fox pulled his contract for X3 because of this.

Did you hear that after his accident he was convinced he could walk again?

...he must have thought he was Superman

Heard this inappropriate, politically incorrect joke some time ago...

There was one sicko who showed up at a Halloween costume party dressed in a superman costume wheeling himself around in a wheelchair with a breathing apparatus taped around his neck... I remember his wife begged him not to do it, but he wouldn't budge... [:/] Boy was she mad for months...
