GogglesnTeeth 6 #1 October 11, 2004 Ok, It's official, I've been unemployed for 6 months now, almost out of unemployment and time to get a job. But now the true accomplishment. I have now done 102 skydives while on unemployment!!! Goggles and Teeth "You fall like a greased safe!!!"

Sheenster303 0 #3 October 11, 2004 The reason why I'm unemployed for the time being is because my broken leg won't allow me to work. So that very well does not allow me to skydive. Boo on that! So I've done absolutely nothing for the past 2 months. You ask if that is even possible. Yes, it is very possible! I do get disability though and every bit of it goes to paying my car payment for a car I can't drive!!!I'm so funny I crack my head open! YahooLV 0 #4 October 11, 2004 After being unemployed for 14 months, I finally broke down and applied for W.Comp. I earned it, I deserved it....I finally talked myself into getting it. Two months later, I got a lower paying job and took myself off. Took a cut in pay to work...hmmmm.http://www.curtisglennphotography.com

Most state's unemployment is paid by the former employers taxes, no tax payers. Just curious "Don't Mess Around With the Guy in Shades- Oh No!!! pleifer 0 #6 October 11, 2004 QuoteI'm glad everyone else could pay for your jumps! GET A JOB! depends on how you look at it.... here in Oregon, the industries are rated and then have to pay into the unemployment insurance... the government figures out the statistics, and then charges each company what it figures it should contribute.... for example my last employer had to pay 3% of everybodies wages to the employment department because that is the amount of former weyco employees are drawing from the insurance pool..... so unless your a company owner.... you are not paying.... if you are a company owner you can avoid paying by not laying off workers..... read more about it here if your interested... http://findit.emp.state.or.us/tax/how_raised.cfm _________________________________________ The Angel of Duh has spoke

skydiver30960 0 #9 October 11, 2004 Tenth month of unemployment so far. I've been claiming all my earnings at the DZ to the folks at the unemployment department like a good little boy(as the DZO will be filing 1099s, dangnabbit) so chill out Kinney! I've been jumpin' a BUNCH (mostly working tandems), playing ice hockey, and have been chasing a dream by taking an EMT course. I'm setting myself up for a career (EMT/FF) that will pay next to NOTHING, but should be a lot more personally rewarding than what I was doing before (engineering/front line supervision). Plus, everyone says it's one of those "you don't do it for the money" type of jobs, and I AM having a blast so far. Elvisio "you want me to palpate WHAT?" MC208B 0 #11 October 12, 2004 I haven't collected unemplyment in 31 years (since getting out of the army). I did file for it this summer and am still not collecting it due to Oregons dragass/stallem/hope they go away system and last employer (where I worked for 11 years) disputed it. Oh well, I do have a new job

d_squared431 0 #14 October 12, 2004 Let's see the last time I collected unemployment was the summer of 2000, which was the same time I got part of my inheritance. I spent most of the summer in New Zealand Snowboarding my but off, drinking like there was no tomorrow, and spending money frivolously. That was the best summer of my life... Solidified lots of friendships at the DZ's in the area, and have had a lot of fun!!! It will probably be a long time before I have another 6 months off like this one........... once I get a job that is......LOLGoggles and Teeth "You fall like a greased safe!!!" Slurp56 0 #16 October 12, 2004 Quote once I get a job that is......LOL Working for the government isnt half bad. Its by far the easiest money I've made and the greatest wage per hour of work I've ever secured. Its more like a contract job though, only lasts for 6 months________________________________________ I have proof-read this post 500 times, but I guarantee you'll still manage to find a flaw. But you pay it whether or not you have ever laid off an employee. kinney29 0 #18 October 12, 2004 Let me first qualify this by saying, I think there are definite benifits to unemployment, but I do know a lot of people who abuse it. Unemployment is supposed to help you while you look for a new job, however too many people take the time on unemployment as a vacation. And yes, EVERYONE is paying for it, if it's the company or the taxpayer. If the company is paying unemployment, that is more money that they are keeping out of there employees and investors pockets. I am a strong believer of trickle down economics and I believe that the large social programs that "keep are country afloat" are a hinderence in economic growth. Unfortunatly the trend in most aspects of our society is do as little as you can to make the money to satisfy your wants. After that who cares, so many people are dying these days with massive debt, instead of leaving there loved one with something they leave them the burden of our mistakes. We have a responsability to ourselves, our families and our society, but unfortunatly most people feel that they are owed something. Now I'm not saying that you need to work 100 hours a week in a job you hate, but if you are a healtyhy, able-bodied, somewhat intellegent person there are few reasons that you should stay on unemployment very long. I may now have my dream job, but I didn't always. I had to work crappy jobs for little pay. And I did that because I knew I had a responability to provide for myself.
