Tekla 0 #1 October 4, 2004 I've just started the process of transferring some old cassette tapes to MP3 / Wav ready to put on a CD. Which format would you lot recommend. I can't tell the differene between the two audibly so was wondering if there was actually any difference. Lu-"let the beast beware"-cy .
nacmacfeegle 0 #2 October 4, 2004 MP3 is more likely to play on things like DVD/CD players, car stereos etc. It would suck to have to re-rip everything if you choose wav. Keep the bit rate high and you'll be fine.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. AggieDave 6 #3 October 4, 2004 Wav/MP3, its easy to rip back and forth, doesn't takemuch time either, although you do loose a little bit of quality each time.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Tekla 0 #5 October 4, 2004 Thanks Dave. I was gonna make a joke about taking advice from a blethering idiot, but you don't do that no more so I can't. Shame. Bitrate will depend on how much I want to fit on one CD. I've got a lot of 12Inches from the 80's to record. Thanks for tthe advice. Lu-"let the beast beware"-cy . nacmacfeegle 0 #6 October 4, 2004 Damn Dave, I need to upgrade my desktop machine, it takes me a while.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. AggieDave 6 #7 October 4, 2004 I usually rip from MP3 to WAV in about an 1/8th of the time it would normally take to play the sound/song. Its about that long going back the other way too. So its not instant, but its not like trying to render a 4 hour movie...--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Tekla 0 #8 October 4, 2004 Shall I introduce at this point a question about the WMA format ? What's that all about ? Lu-"let the beast beware"-cy .
AggieDave 6 #9 October 4, 2004 WMA = FUCKING WORTHLESS! Somthing Microsoft came up with as a "secure" mp3 and something for them to make money off of, trying to control the music formats too.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
