sunshine 2 #1 September 23, 2004 I live in IL. When you get a ticket in IL, the cop takes your driver's license as bond. You get your license back when you pay the ticket. You are still legally able to drive as long as you have the ticket with you in the car. Seems like when i talk to people in other states, they think it's strange to have your license taken. So is it just an IL thing? What happens in the state you live in? ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! SarahC07 0 #4 September 23, 2004 Yeah, thats weird. Although... it is probably a good system. Get one here in Texas and you just gotta pay lots of money... as I'm sure you do elsewhere.
akarunway 1 #5 September 23, 2004 In Fla. they take it for a DUI and give you a 7 day temp last I was there. I haven't had a D/L for for 17 yrs so I'm not sure other than I know better than to drive, LOLI hold it true, whate'er befall; I feel it, when I sorrow most; 'Tis better to have loved and lost Than never to have loved at all. Skycow 0 #6 September 23, 2004 When I lived in GA they did that. Sucked if you were going out drinking or something -- no ID!! Here in FL they just issue you a ticket -- you keep your license! Enjoy here while you're here because there's no here there.
sunshine 2 #7 September 23, 2004 QuoteGet one here in Texas and you just gotta pay lots of money... as I'm sure you do elsewhere. Well the speeding ticket i got a few weeks ago is $75. But i currently have no driver's license, which means no photo ID. I need to go home and find my passport and shove that in my purse. Meant to do that last night, but forgot. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!
EdC 0 #8 September 23, 2004 In OH, they give you a ticket and you get to keep your license, but they don't tell you how much it's going to cost. You have to call the court to find out what the fine is. If you get multiple tickets in a short period of time, the cost goes up not down. You would think you could get a bulk discount but Johnny Law does not see it that way. Big Ed
sunshine 2 #9 September 23, 2004 QuoteYou would think you could get a bulk discount but Johnny Law does not see it that way. OMG, thats fuckin hilarious. Most places in IL will accept your ticket for say writing a check or whatever. I did get IDed going into a strip club a few weeks ago, but the guy let me in on the ticket. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! RoysPlayThing 0 #10 September 23, 2004 When I lived in Fair Oaks, CA. (Sacramento county).... what happened to me, was they would try to give me a speeding ticket, but I just looked at him and smiled and did exactly as he told me and he couldn't seem to give me a ticket. hmmm I really don't know what happens to you when you get a speeding ticket in that county. _______________________________________________ My mind is like a parachute...it functions only when open. I unfortunately was caught going 30 over... But I was only written a ticket for 19 (I think the cop was being nice... because had I been going 20 over my ticket would have been much more expensive, because I was most definitely going 95 in a 65 )... BUT the damn ticket was like $260 or something crazy like that... that's if I just wanted to pay it off....(and I didn't). Seeing as how it was my first speeding ticket, I paid the court fees of $97 (which are unavoidable... I didn't even go to court!!!) and then took on-line defensive driving (SUCKED MAJORLY) which was $45 and then I had to send a copy of my driving record to the court house and THAT was like an additional $20 or something crazy... I learned my lesson... HA- But I still speed... I'm a defensive driver now.... I watch for cops...
sunshine 2 #12 September 23, 2004 Well i couldn't really try any of those little girly tricks this time. See it's also required to have vehicle insurance, which i do, but i didn't have my proof of insurance with me. The cop was nice enough to NOT give me a ticket for that which would've been very expensive, or they could bring you to jail ASAP. So i just kinda accepted the speeding ticket without a fight. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug! Hmmmmm, I still would have gotten the ticket for no insurance, but it would have been dismissed if I had taken proof of insurance to the courts within the allotted time period. As for speeding, the fines here are exhorbitant, and the local police have bad attitudes and will give you a ticket for harrassing an officer if you happen to breathe on them with bad breath...okay, I'm exaggerating a little, but not much! ***************************************** Blondes do have more fun! I actually had that happen...I was pulled over for expired plates (forgot to get the sticker...for like 4 months ) I also didnt have my new insurance card in my truck. This cop did the opposite, let me go on the sticker on the promise I would fix it the next day...but gave me the ticket for the lack of insurance....all I had to do was show up to court and prove to them that I was insured at the time, which I was, just needed to bring the new insurance card to court...and that was it...didnt cost me a dime She is not a "Dumb Blonde" - She is a "Light-Haired Detour Off The Information Superhighway." eeneR TF#72, FB#4130, Incauto

The place i got pulled over is pretty damn far away from home. I guess i was in a hurry to get to SDC that day. Edited to add: Can we kinda get back to the original question of do any other states besides IL take your license as bond when you get a speeding ticket? ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! slug 1 #19 September 23, 2004 Hi SS Very strange takeing your drivers liscense until you show up in court, I'd be afraid it would get lost in the system hopefully it stay atached to the ticket, they never lose those. Gotten tickets in Wa, Co, Ks, Mo, Ill, no one ever took my liscense. The cop in Ill ecorted me to a maibox so I could pay the fine on the spot. Since I was just passing thru. He told me no cash would have to go to see the judge on monday. free room and board. I have gotten out of a couple tickets by doing a "man trick" When the cop says he clocked me I just start crying, sometimes the cops to embaressed to see a grown man cry and lets me go

You don't need anything but your Sam's Card to travel with. Last week when I was in Calif, my friend and I went to Mexico. I had forgot to take my DL out of the pants I was wearing when I was having to show it to TSA. Coming back from Mexico, I told the Boarder Patrol that I had left my DL in my other pants. I showed him my Sam's Card, and he let me back into the United States. Is that just crazy?May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. They used to staple it to the paperwork. Dunno if they still do. You could spot a shitty driver by the number of staple holes in their DL. In high school, we'd always steal someone's brand new DL, and put about a dozen pair of staple holes in it, so their parents would think they were hiding tickets... heh...[/ex-chicagoan]

chuckbrown 0 #25 September 23, 2004 In PA you're not even required to carry a driver's license while driving. If you're stopped by a cop you have 48 hours to produce your license. If you get a ticket and don't pay, you'll definitely lose your license.
