What's the best tv comedy ever?

I always like the Black Adder. The new series with RA about a police station relies too heavily on him to provide the humor.

BLackadder was good, particularly "Blackadder Goes Forth". RA always did a superb line in sarcasm and it was well cast... But... Only 4 series? Similar jokes throughout? Patchy quality? Good, not a "Great".

Pale, insipid, weak, tasteless and overly gassy.

That seems entirely funny coming from a Brit. :D How's your tan coming? ;)

Now I remember who said "American humor is rather like American beer. Pale, insipid, weak, tasteless and overly gassy."

It was me!:D

My tan is coming along just fine. We have this place called portugal un Europe. It's like Florida, but without the Alligators, Excess glassfibre, annoying cartoon characters and hurricanes.

How's your rebuilding coming?:ph34r::ph34r:[:/]

Fortunately, I live in Z-hills which we have designated a "hurricane-free zone". As a trailer resident, I am hoping for a biggie about every 3 years so that I can get my insurance-provided new home.

I have a timesaving technique whereby I get a new home, or move, every 3 years instead of vacuuming and cleaning.

Only Fools and Horses - some of the best writing ever.

If you like Only Fools and Horses, you'll LOVE Allo Allo.

1) MASH - yeah, we're dating ourselves

MASH is nothing. Here's a real trip on the wayback machine: The Dick Van Dyke Show. Times and mores change, but back then it was the Seinfeld of its day; a show that left on top.

And I will give a nod to Fawlty Towers. Why? I must be from Barcelona.
Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

I've been thinking about this the past few days since a conversation I had. It was nice to have a dumb conversation, but we argued about the best comedies. We came out with some of what we thought were great ones.

1) MASH - yeah, we're dating ourselves
2) All in the Family
3) Seinfeld
4) The Simpsons (not the past few years)
5) Cheers
6) Frasier - what great writing!!!
7) Scrubs - hey, this is way up on my list for hilarity, soul, and sweetness
8) Happy Days
9) Police Squad - the funniest 6 episodes ever on TV
10) Sledge Hammer

What are some other choices of great comedies?

NEWS RADIO!
(I remember being skeptical, and then I watched it at my brother's insistence, and found out it was incredibly hilarious!)

Everybody Loves Raymond is great, too.

The Simpsons, followed by Seinfeld.

I'm sorry, they are the greatest in my opinion. I've had detailed arguments with people over the 'levels' of the simpsons, I guess that comes from watching a tv show every week (and often 7 times a week) for two thirds of your life. I never really watched much tv comparatively speaking, but those two shows were the exception.

...oh and to a much lesser extent i've been a fan of Just Shoot me and Fraiser.

Lots of good shows mentioned, but I really enjoyed the original Bob Newhart show (and of course the second one, esp. with the last episode).

Then there was the classsic comedy show of the 80s on WTBS -- Braves' Baseball. It lost a lot when the Braves got good and started winning, but in the bad old days it was fun to listen to the announcers trying to come up with something to say as the games got out of hand. The funniest thing of all was watching the Braves try to play baseball.

Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money.

Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

anyone forget about "the kids in the hall"?

Another one I like is A canadian show called "the red green show." Although the humour can be bland at times. Other times it is outright hilarious especially his projects held together by the handyman's secert weapon ductape!
ok I watch to many comedies on pbs.

Also in no particular order:

The Honeymooners
Burns and Allen
MASH
All in the Family
Family Ties
The Cosby Show
Cheers
Frasier
Mary Tyler Moore
Friends
Seinfeld
Wings
Taxi

That's all I can think of for now.
