Carter 0 #1 September 7, 2004 A Swissair Airbus pilot mounted two small jet engines to a nine foot carbon fiber wing. He supposedly managed a four minute freefall from 12,000ft with some horizontal flight. http://www.yves-rossy.com/en/jetman.php

Newbie 0 #7 September 8, 2004 From the link: QuoteHe manages a horizontal flight at 1600m from the ground for more than 4 minutes at 100 kts ( 115 mph ), am i reading this right? He managed to stay airborne for 4 mins from 1600 m (about 5000ft)? "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
piisfish 140 #8 September 8, 2004 not really, but that is the altitude he cruised at during 4 minutes scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
Newbie 0 #9 September 8, 2004 i still dont understand - are you saying he exited at 4000m then maintained an altitude of 1600 metres for 4 mins?? This can't be right. Can it? "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
piisfish 140 #10 September 8, 2004 yes it can... Big loss of altitude at the exit, with the wings folded, then opening the wings, starting the turbines etc... With engine off exits, the best altitude we managed to get a flying configuration was around 2000m...scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
Newbie 0 #11 September 8, 2004 i'm being very stupid here - so, at 1600 metres he was flying horizontally....and 4 minutes later he was still at 1600 metres? "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
Fast 0 #12 September 8, 2004 Quotei'm being very stupid here - so, at 1600 metres he was flying horizontally....and 4 minutes later he was still at 1600 metres? Thats what I gather from this. I would imagine that the engines that they strapped to the wing provided ample power for enough lift to stay at a constant altitude.~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me.
